We keep hearing how it will cost a bazillion dollars to get out of the climate crisis, and might cost even more if we don't do anything. "It's not all that economically feasible" is wussy talk when the alternatives are so much more expensive.
Because the choice here isn't "nuclear vs wind and solar," it's "nuclear vs coal and gas" for reliable power generation.

We are talking here about single reactors rated around 1.5 GW each. If you have 9 bn or 25 bn at hand, and just buy wind turbines or solar panels and put them somewhere, you will easily get 1.5 GW power out of them. Normal wind turbines cost about $1000 per kW, thus 1.5 bn buys you 1.5 GW of maximum output, and with 9 bn, even if your windmills run only at 20 percent peak power, you easily get an Olkiluoto III replacement, and still have spare cash for a large akkumulator array. In fact on average, a wind turbine runs about 1500 hrs to 1800 hrs per year at full power, which is quite close to 20% of total hours.
Yeah and when its cloudy, or night, those solar panels don't do much for you. Or how about when its not windy enough or to windy or blowing in the wrong direction so much for your windmills. Meanwhile the nuclear power plant can provide consistent power 24 7 365. New design besides being mechanically incapable of meltdown, use nuclear waste from old design as fuel. So we can get rid of old nuclear waste and actually make things better than they stand now.

Yes they did, when they turned off the safety controls and ran the reactor way outside of its design spec...
A number of other reactors of the same design were still running, and some still are running today. Newer reactors are designed to provide more protection against stupidity of the operators.

He's right though. Voting for a 3rd party is like not voting at all so if there's a candidate you prefer, you're actually taking away votes from them by voting for a 3rd party. Even if your 3rd party candidate did get a significant number of votes, you wouldn't get more representation, it would just go to congress which would most likely pick a Republican president.

If I feel strongly against one sides platform I will vote for a platform that I don't strongly disagree with. Otherwise I will vote off-meta. It is far better in the long term to vote 3rd party. I used to be non-partisan, for many many years. I sat on the fence and voted for issues, not candidates. Two years ago I saw I can't do that anymore. I registered as Democrat, as much out of necessity as I did out of protest against the twisted, evil, hateful mess the GOP has become since I was a kid (I'm in my 50's). I'll vote Democrat right down the line just to keep Republicans out of office. A vote for anyone other than Biden is a vote for Trump. Period. It's an unfortunate fact of life in American politics, but it's not going to change until we change our voting system. We're starting to - some places (like here in Oregon) are starting, slowly, to shift to instant runoff voting, but we've a long ways to go before we can get away from voting for the lessor of evils.

You've got to be kidding - have you seen the numbers? The US is the only country where the virus is still spreading exponentially. Some states have done a better job of controlling it than others (e.g. in NY it's under control, in FL it's a disaster). Proper leadership at the national level could have made it so all states were doing well, but instead we had a guy who refused to even wear a mask and says the whole thing will just blow over on its own.

The sexual assault allegations against Biden pretty much fell apart. The location where the assault supposedly happened literally does not exist (an alcove in a hallway that does not have alcoves). The accuser also has a history of false statements.

Yes, that's rather my point. Most people haven't seen those clips. Most people won't ever see those clips. Most people don't spend their days actively searching YouTube for clips of political candidates being creepy, and since they are "old news", the odds of them being widely played on TV news in future are minimal. You know what they have seen of Biden? Eight years of him standing next to Barack Obama.
And even if I'm wrong, and the clips do get widespread circulation in future, I doubt they'll have the kind of impact you're anticipating. People have become so used to political campaigns getting dirty, they're so used to seeing people throwing around allegations that the other guy is a creep, that they've started to tune this sort of thing out. Back in the 80s, Arizona had a Republican governor by the name of Evan Meacham. Businessman, no real political experience (sound familiar?). He was so thoroughly rejected by the government's immune system that he was the first governor in America to be simultaneously impeached and recalled (!).
The lady that followed for the rest of his term was an unassuming Secretary of State named Rose Mofford. Unlike Meacham, she was basically uncontroversial, experienced in government, and (most importantly) competent. She was the saltines-and-plain-broth for a political hangover.

I don't agree with everything Trump has done. For example, I wish he had started to wear a mask sooner. And I wish his tweets were more about what he's done, and less about how he doesn't like his opposition. But generally, I'm happy with his COVID-19 response.

You're comparing states that have already passed the case peak (or, at least the first one) with states that are still in the case peak. With death lagging infections by up to a month, you cannot compare the death rates vs infected rates at the moment and say anything at all useful about them. You can, however, get a better idea by comparing deaths vs resolved cases. When you do this, you get a lot closer: Florida 12%, Georgia 13%, New York 13%.
