Yes, he means the Second Amendment [wikipedia.org], that was ratified together with the other first ten as the Bill of Rights [wikipedia.org]. So, if you mean it wasn't ratified the same way as XI-XXVII were, then yes, I suppose. If you mean the same way as, say, the First Amendment prohibiting restrictions on freedom of speech or free exercise of religion, or the Fourth, which prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures, than no, it was ratified exactly the same way.
Interestingly enough, those also happen to be 2 other of the most ignored parts of the US Constitution. Actually, never mind, that would be the Tenth Amendment, which explicitly states that any rights not granted to the Federal government or restricted from the states belongs to the states or to the people. You know, the amendment that more or less strictly forbids... hell, just about everything the federal government does these days except maybe defense and building roads. The federal government does still build roads, right? I'm a little confused, since it seems they mainly just give money to corporations or pass laws protecting copyright these days .

The problem with the second amendment isn't the original intent, it's that those with that original intent could not have imagined what the word arms would come to represent. The fact is we have to draw a line somewhere when it comes to weapon ownership. Where we draw the line is debatable, but I've yet to meet one person who would advocate an individual's right to own nuclear weapons. If you consider that the far end of the continuum of arms and the muskets and rifles the original framers of the constitution understood to be arms on the other end, somewhere in between is the demarcation line of what people should be allowed to own.
Unless you're willing to concede that all weapons, including nuclear, biological, chemical and everything that mankind thinks up in the future, are fair game for individuals to own, you can't be upset about people arguing where that line should be drawn just because the weapons you want to own are on the wrong side.
So, to all the 2nd amendment proponents out there...do you support the right to own nukes and anthrax/serin/etc? If not, what rationale do you have for saying that the lines should be drawn excluding those arms while including assault rifles and the like?

I strongly support the rights of individuals to own weapons that can be used to defend them against criminals (including criminals who cash government paychecks), or for sport. I don't support the right of anyone, especially governments, to own nukes or other weapons that can kill indiscriminately, since there's no way to use a nuke or anthrax without endangering others.

I kept thinking, about the attack in Norway, if it had been a US camp there would have been a range, and if someone had the keys to the guns they wood have shot the guy long before the cops arrived.
In most scenarios, that isn't true--the number of accidents with gun ownership doesn't justify having guns around for self-defense, especially someplace like Norway where police have, historically, not carried firearms. But when everyone can get a gun, it is good to have at least one or two people at a potential target who can, at the least, get a gun out of a locked safe.

I have no problem if you dislike or distrust the Second Amendment, but don't try to do an end run around it. Repeal it or change it, pretending it means something different or that it can be ignored just opens the door for abuse of the other parts of the Bill of Rights. It's not a stretch from banning types of personal weapons that you don't like to banning types of speech you don't like, religions you don't like, or political parties you don't like. One is a clear precedent for the other.

It should be noted that "assault rifles" (selective fire or fully automatic weapons) are strictly regulated. The more commonly used phrase "Assault weapon" does NOT refer to a selective fire or fully automatic weapon, it refers to a semi-automatic rifle which looks evil to the anti-gun crowd.
It should also be noted that most "assault weapons" are rather wimpier than, say, my .30-06.

The 2nd amendment doesn't grant us the right to bear arms (leaving us to squabble over the deffinition of "arms").
Being born gives you the right to bear arms. The 2nd amendment was a promise, from the yet-to-be-formed federal government, that it would not abridge that right.

Often, but not always. Parodies generally remain protected under the First Amendment, for example, as do the major media outlets, even when they are grossly irresponsible. (E.g. "Well the WTC withstood this bombing because it was designed to withstand an impact from a plane of size X," ten years later WTC gets hits with planes of size X+1, nobody mentions "By the way, we were the ones who suggested this idea with our irresponsible reporting!") Same with the elevation in media attention around soldier kidnappings in the period leading up to the Israel-Lebanon war--a war which may not have happened--or may have had different precipitating events--if the Media had acted more responsibly.)
The Fourth Amendment is also respected by the courts, and (depending on where you are) often by the cops, although the cops will try to trick you into waiving your rights.
The Westboro baptist church is also still in existence, even though pretty much everyone in the Federal Government would like to beat the crap out of them.
The Second Amendment has had new life breathed into it by Heller and MacDonald (SCOTUS cases).
I do agree that the education system today doesn't teach anything remotely like what the Constitution means, or even how a bill becomes a law. (How many schools even teach that Congress has committees? Much less that bill passage isn't necessarily by a majority, it's by whatever the Congress wants, according to the Constitution? Which is why we have sixty votes to close debate in the Senate, even though that's more than a majority and you need that if you want a bill passed.)

Which licensing and copyright issues are you thinking of? I may have missed some otaku-grade Marvel history about this character that complicates licensing, but failing that, I cannot imagine a Marvel character appearing in any Marvel movie as a complicated rights issue.

It's a 20th Century Fox movie, thus the licensing problems.
i.e. Marvel licensed the X-Men to 20th Century Fox under some set of terms and cannot (yet) use them in it's own movies.

Well, the TBF was nice. The A-12 was a boondoggle that cost a couple of billion before it was cancelled; none were ever made. It was also *not* the "Grumman A-12"; Grumman in fact competed for the contract but failed when they didn't submit a final bid at the end of the competition; McDonnell Douglas and General Dynamics were the contractors.

As was noted in The Last Avengers Story; superheroes have morals, but supervillains have a work ethic. The only exception in the Marvel universe is Captain America. When the shits hits the fan, you can't afford narcissism or alcoholism or any of the other flaws present in the rest of the Avengers.
In a real crisis, you need clarity, leadership, and a plan. And that's what Steve Rogers brought to the table, every time. No one catches the Cap'n with his pants down.
He was always the best of them. He didn't need superpowers or any sort of offensive weaponry. His only weapon was a shield, wielded at the absolute peak of human potential. No one could approach Steve Rogers' tactical awareness in a combat situation, not even Tony Stark with all of his gadgetry. He was and is a true role model, a natural leader - everything that all men aspire to become.
Thor can go fuck himself with that hammer. Captain America is the pound for pound champ.
