I know you were joking, but the pedant in me can't resist pointing out that Egyptian
hieroglyphs were not pictograms, but just a fancy font. Each one represented a syllable or sound (eg a sun is pronounced ra - the god of the sun is Ra, but as a letter the sun would be used for the sound ra)

This will be big enough for all characters in Klingon, Ferengi, Romulan, Cardassian, Minbari, Centuari, Narn, Vorlon, Shadows, etc, etc.
Plus a 2 ^ 256 space can be reserved in that character set for glyphs that are an 8x8 matrix with all possible combinations of the 64 cells black and white. Thus there will be font glyphs that represent all possible 8x8 cell grids, including ones that look like characters from an 8-bi

I hate all autocorrect. I typed that because it's what I mean, dammit! And if it's wrong, I'd rather correct it myself, because the machine's guess is likely to be wrong too. But auto-emoji are the worst.

I've dealt with smartphone interfaces that apparently don't let you turn off autocorrect (at least, I haven't found a way). That really, really sucks. I've also wrestled with web software that autoemojis what it thinks are emoticons (like the above mentioned B)) and had to stick in do-nothing markup to prevent it from happening.

I also strongly prefer ASCII emoticons. The graphic ones aren't consistent across platforms, and often aren't readable enough on phone screens (even not counting that texting them from Android to iPhone or back tends to replace them with different ones with a similar theme or else ??'s.)

Emojis are the only real use I've found for the Apple Touch Bar. I use them all the time in chat at work.
That touch bar has some real unfortunate icons though. Who was the genius that decided the mute/unmute button should always look like sound is muted?
