I know you were joking, but the pedant in me can't resist pointing out that Egyptian hieroglyphs were not pictograms, but just a fancy font. Each one represented a syllable or sound (eg a sun is pronounced ra - the god of the sun is Ra, but as a letter the sun would be used for the sound ra)
I'm waiting for UTF-512. (512 bits per character!)
This will be big enough for all characters in Klingon, Ferengi, Romulan, Cardassian, Minbari, Centuari, Narn, Vorlon, Shadows, etc, etc.
Plus a 2 ^ 256 space can be reserved in that character set for glyphs that are an 8x8 matrix with all possible combinations of the 64 cells black and white. Thus there will be font glyphs that represent all possible 8x8 cell grids, including ones that look like characters from an 8-bi
I hate all autocorrect. I typed that because it's what I mean, dammit! And if it's wrong, I'd rather correct it myself, because the machine's guess is likely to be wrong too. But auto-emoji are the worst.
I get some truly annoying autocorrects when texting. The emojis are bad but the "but -> bit" and "or -> of" are just obnoxious. One of the other problems is that the Samsung keyboard will learn partial words accidentally if I backspace and fix an error, for instance 'tial' from the word 'partial'. Then it will not later correct 'tial' to 'tail'. And none of the autocorrect options are the right one if I have a misspelling like 'dandal' or 'gair' where the first letter is obviously just off by one keyb
I've dealt with smartphone interfaces that apparently don't let you turn off autocorrect (at least, I haven't found a way). That really, really sucks. I've also wrestled with web software that autoemojis what it thinks are emoticons (like the above mentioned B)) and had to stick in do-nothing markup to prevent it from happening.
I also strongly prefer ASCII emoticons. The graphic ones aren't consistent across platforms, and often aren't readable enough on phone screens (even not counting that texting them from Android to iPhone or back tends to replace them with different ones with a similar theme or else ??'s.)

wut? High bandwidth? It's a single character. Maybe a mix of a few characters. And the emoji are built into the fonts so there's no bandwidth there either. But k
If one considers old-fashioned emoticons like:-) as emoji, then I use them from time to time. If one limits it to Unicode/graphics emoji, then only when the site or my device replaces one with the other (which it isn't doing today).
The emoji "Thumbs up" is a useful emoji used to put an end to a conversation. Pretty cumbersome to write (ascii art follows):

Emojis are useful and quite convenient at times, so I use them, but not extensively. Still there are lot's of emojies that are missing, but will be nice to have.
