+1 for Startpage; however, I have Google as a secondary. For whatever reason, Startpage's results aren't as in-depth as Googles. 0 hit searches on Startpage sometimes come up with a couple dozen hits on Google. However, 95% of the time Startpage is sufficient.

Because it's familiar. Learning the right words, terms or phrases helps. Sometimes I ask a educated, brainy or insightful friend. for an answer. I wanted to use DuckDuckGo but I just didn't get the same quality of results from it. Perhaps the profiling Google does means I get more meaningful results or something bit DuckDuckGo was just so way of the mark I had to go back to Google.
I've been using this site now for at least three years. It's improved its search results to the point where I virtually never turn to Google for additional results -- something I'd occasionally do in the past. One nice feature on the mobile app is the flame icon, which deletes the search history from your device.
Those who use Duck Duck Go or Startpage might think they are escaping Google's tentacles, but they are not. Just about every Web site you go to after FINDING the one you want, reports back to Google.

I usually use DDG, even for technical things.
It's just the default in Safari now (for me).
Results aren't terribly different. It's just when your query has more local references than Google will find "better" results.

Yup, exactly this. DuckDuckGo first; and if I don't see what I want I just add a "!G" - although that doesn't happen very often anymore.
I must say that Google's results almost always match the Duck's... if DDG returns an unhelpful result, Google generally does as well.
