IIRC in Portugal the days of the week do not have names, only numbers, except for Saturday and Sunday. For example I remember an electronic clock displaying "SEX" for Friday.

For me it has to be Sunday. It's church all day and I don't work Sunday night. It's the day that I get to hang out all day with good people and have intelligent conversations. If there is any sadness, it is quickly wipped away with a verse.
As we all know, Sunday is not the sabbath. It is not the seventh day (it's the first), and it is certainly not a day of rest, at least for me. Nevertheless, it is the best day of the week for me.

Which day of the week is "first" is a simple setting in one of the preference panels. For me and most of Europe it's monday, but some parts of the planet apparently prefer to start the week with a rest day. No big deal.
Sabbath is saturday. Whether you want to call it the first, the last, the sixth, or the square-root-of-two'th day of the week is entirely up to you. I suppose for Jews it makes sense to consider sunday to be the first day of the week, just like it makes sense for others to start the week on

Sadly it's not always "a simple setting", I've encountered way too many applications and APIs, all created by americans, that insisted on sunday being the first day of the week. With APIs it's extra fun because you have to write your own code to deal with the stupidity so your users don't get confused by the religious statement baked into the underlying API...

Well, one problem is that in northern Europe monday is the first day of the week and we use week numbering quite a lot (ISO 8601 is the standard we follow, despite MS and others pretending it doesn't exist) and when your API claims that sunday this week is actually next week this creates issues that result in us having to write a lot of custom code to handle this ourselves.

I think all the amusing posts have all been covered, so I'll give you the real reason: The observance of the 7th day was part of the Old Law. The early Christians (being Jews) observed both the Sabbath and the Lord's Day, at least until they got kicked out of Judaism for being heretics. If you read in Romans, Paul strongly advocates against this kind of thinking. The Law (10 Commandments) are provided to point out what is right and wrong. The new covenant with Christians is that God's laws will be written in our hearts and minds, not on stone (Hebrews 8:10). The laws themselves haven't changed.
Keep reading through Acts and other books of the New Testament and you will see the early church still keeping the Saturday Sabbath. It wasn't until hundreds of years after Christ that the church decided to make Sunday the "official" day of rest (Sabbath in Christianity, Wikipedia [wikipedia.org]).
What can be confusing is separating the 10 Commandments, the unchangeable law of God, with the rest of the ceremonial laws described by Moses. It is the ceremonial law (sacrifices, rituals for cleaning, etc.) that were no longer necessary, because they contained symbols that pointed forward to the Messiah. Once He arrived, they were no longer necessary. Note, however, that Jesus never said to get rid of the 10 Commandments while He was on earth. In fact, He kept them all Himself.
Think of it this way: if these no longer applied, then stealing and killing are OK, and so is lying and dishonouring your parents. Idolatry and having gods other than God would also be acceptable. This is exactly the opposite of what God wanted.

It is nice to run errands and do shopping on Sunday mornings... but around here this time of year, that peace and quiet ends abruptly an hour before kickoff as Cheeseheads of all denominations, faiths and beliefs, pack the grocery stores for last minute munchies before heading home for the game. It's bigger than any one God, it's Packers football! It's the worst twice a year, before the Packers/Vikings games -- I'd rather head to the mall at 5AM on Black Friday than go to Walmart before one of those.

I have no idea what time slot the shows I watch are in. I just let my DVR take care of all of that for me.
But if we're going by TV schedule, Sunday rules the roost in my house. At least during football season. Hell, the only reason we got Dish was because they moved Monday Night Football to ESPN. Man, my then-pregnant wife was pissed off at ABC for doing that. Do not mess with a pregnant woman's TV schedule, especially if she's a football fan.

I work a 4 day week. Well I work Friday but at home. Friday is my "get some work done", program at home day; More fun than work, really.
The last working day of the week is the best. I'm invigorated and have a "get that job done quickly and well" attitude. Nothing can bring be down because the weekend follows.
The night of the last working day is the best because it's the longest period before I have to be back at work again. I actually love my work ... been there 8 years so far but have zero interest in leaving to chase different or higher paying work. It satisfies me.
