I don't think the use of pro audio gear is a compelling reason for leaving a headphone jack that's driven by a consumer grade chip set in an electrically noisy environment. Anyone that's actually really doing pro level audio work is probably using an external DAC or something, or at least should be.

Working On Microsoft's Cortana Is Laborious and Poorly Paid (vice.com) 19
The work is magnified by the large footprint of speech recognition tools: Microsoft's Cortana product, similar to Apple's Siri, is implemented in Windows 10 machines and Xbox One consoles, and is also available as on iOS, Android, and smart speakers. The instruction manuals on classifying this sort of data go on for hundreds of pages, with a dizzying number of options for contractors to follow to classify data, or punctuation style guides they're told to follow. The contractor said they are expected to work on around 200 pieces of data an hour, and noted they've heard personal and sensitive information in Cortana recordings. A document obtained by Motherboard corroborates that for some work contractors need to complete at least 200 tasks an hour. The pay for this work varies. One contract obtained by Motherboard shows pay at $12 an hour, with the possibility of contractors being able to reach $13 an hour as a bonus. A contract for a different task shows $14 an hour, with a potential bonus of $15 an hour. A Microsoft spokesperson told Motherboard in an emailed statement, "We're always looking to improve transparency and help customers make more informed choices. Our disclosures have been clear that we use customer content from Cortana and Skype Translator to improve these products, we engage third party expertise to assist in this process, and we take steps to de-identify this content to protect people's privacy."

In the environments most consumer-types listen to audio, there's no discernible difference in quality between a good analog and a good wireless set of headphones. Even in the average office there's enough noise pollution to negate any perceived 'better quality' in wired headphones. People are just used to what they're used to. Feel free to keep listening to digital music/books/whatever pushed through 60 year-old analog technology. Totally makes sense. (not) If you bought a new HDTV and it had analog knobs on it you'd be enraged.
Got into a discussion about audio quality on the headphones I happened to be wearing. This happened while I was actually on a moving train. A loud one. Sorry, dude, if you're telling me analog beats wireless sound quality on a noisy train, you're just part of the cult.

At the moment I don't think it is going anywhere good. Here in Canada we are on a severe left-ward swing with what used to be a centrist party getting hi-jacked by a far left agenda. In response the rightwing seems to be getting more and more right wing as if this will somehow compensate.
In the old model when one party went out to one extreme the opposition quickly moved back towards the centre since they knew that this was where most of the votes were. Now the response seems to be the opposite. Hopefully some political parties will start to figure out that there is a large raft of centrist voters looking for someone to vote for before things go too far are we have to choose facism or communism (which are really just flip sides of the same coin).

If I had some kind of professional need, I'd appreciate the reliability of a wired connection and the low latency, but also I might be using some kind of a breakout device rather than direct analog audio.
On an iPad pro w/ headphone jack, sometimes I play with GarageBand for fun and it has a very annoying message if I use it while connected to a bluetooth audio receiver (not headphones in my case). The latency isn't enough for me to care, but the annoying message and having to dismiss it every time is the main reason I choose an inconvenient wired audio connection for it. It's a different setup because it's going to an audio device across the room instead of a short distance for headphones. If I could simply suppress that message, I'd choose bluetooth but also I'm not trying to use headphones there.
