A modest refund is alright and I get that your time is valuable and that you have had yearly life events, but when I hear of people who aren't receiving the Earned Income Tax Credit having 3000 refunds it's a bit shocking that they wouldn't rather have an extra 250 dollars per month in their pocket. As you said, you probably won't be buying houses, getting married and having kids every year for the next ten so eventually when things settle down you may want to have another look at that withholding or you estimated tax payments because nobody that I know ever wishes that they put more into the escrow account with Uncle Sam at zero percent.

Gnumeric + fill out PDF's via Adobe + print + sign + mail

For many years now I have done our taxes with Gnumeric on my Amiga computer (which have evolved). We do a couple of the worksheets + the forms we are required to file. It gets easier to do every year. It *is* a pain when they insert new rows in the forms!

Once that is done, we use my wife's macAir with Adobe to fill out the IRS PDF files and print those. We sign the 1040 and mail it in.

I tried the online free Tax programs, but they were too much of a straight jacket.

This is true, and exactly how this was found by Codenomicon. Having access to the source code actually makes it far easier to turn the bad behavior into a working exploit, particularly for something like buffer overflows. Although in this case, there wasn't much work needed as the bad behavior was returning the contents of memory in response to a bad parameter.

I installed my own garmin gps in my car about 10 yrs ago when I bought the car, new. I did a very custom install and people are usually impressed by it. its also quite hidden, which is why its not been taken OUT of my car in 10 yrs.

but now, 10 yrs later, the maps are very out of date for many areas I drive in (bay area). I'm too cheap to buy an update and so I use my android phone. it sits in a center cup holder area, it uses cellphone locations and gps and always stays current, for free.

I don't love google, believe me, but I'm not sure I'm willing to go back to old school gps boxes again. I also can't see paying the car co for their version when a cellphone does gps these days just fine.

if I had garmin stock, I'd sell it. same for others. they were great when they were all you could get; but now smartphones have this one killer app and that's gps, for many of us. I value the gps almost more than I value remote email and web on the phone.

Everyone has noticed there are a lot of very pro-Russian people popping up on websites and I can't really understand them. The facts seem very apparent that Russia has done some extremely objectionable things, and threatens to do even more objectionable things, and the justifications for those actions seem extraordinarily weak.

Maybe some of the commenters are paid by Russia (I think that's been documented with some blogs), but a lot of them seem to be sincere westerners and I can't figure them out. Do they have Russian ancestry that makes them pro-Russia? Are they just really counter-cultural and suspicious of Western interference in the East?

Personally I'm fairly pro-West, anti-authoritarian, and have Ukrainian ancestry so I have strong feelings on the subject, but I still think I make a fairly impartial assessment of the situation. I just can't figure out the ideology that drives the Russian supporters.

Claiming more allowances than you're entitled to is against the rules. How many an individual is entitled to depends upon work situation, certain life events, whether deductions are itemized or not, household status and other factors. The IRS provides a calculator or you can use publication 505 and the worksheets to figure it out for your specific case. Knowingly providing false information on IRS forms is a crime, but then again you know that because you're a smart ass.

If you think the sysadmin who can program or the programmer who can admin a system is bad, you should have seen what happened when they gave Visual Basic to a subject matter expert (SME) and said, "You can program!" Agggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!

So far it's the Crimea who has moved to and invaded Russia with all the mutuality. If the Ukranian unrest persists, the ppl of the Ukraine will flee to Russia as to a safe haven or they will rise to stand up to the junta. The junta in Kiev is almost penniless. I think the rise of the ppl is inevitable with either the subsequent joining with Russia or staying formally independent like Ossetia, for example.

There was already a OS-Agnostic standard for this - MirrorLink. Yet again Apple pushes another proprietary standard when an open alternative already existed. Airplay/DLNA, ALAC/FLAC & now CarPlay/MirrorLink and the iSheep will eat it up a think it's the best thing since slice bread.
