At the time I remember quite a few list members downloaded and tried them but quite a few very shaky paper R1s went to the breakers because these kits are not paper modelling for the beginner or the faint hearted.
Still, topmarks to Yamaha for doing such a cool thing!

Basically, if you can make or get a 3d model of something, assembling a paper model if it isn't that hard to do. There's even software [e-cardmodel.com] for this.

Of course, paper models by no means are limited to static sculptures. My girlfriend got me one of these [www.zuko.to] and it was remarkably simple to assemble, yet very impressive.

More sophisticated models have thousands of parts and are very realistic. A model of USS Saratoga from publisher Fly Model in scale 1:200 has over 3200 parts (that includes couple squadrones of airplanes). Card models are also mostly in large scales (1:33 airplanes, 1:25 vehicles and 1:200 ships) and a whole lot cheaper than plastic models.
