Feed Techdirt: Stupid Battle Over YouTube Subcribers Now Includes A Takedown Order From A Court In India (techdirt.com)
One of the stupidest fights over internet points has reached its latest nadir. It's nadirs all the way down, tbh. If you're interested, there's an entire Wikipedia page with a blow-by-blow of YouTuber PewDiePie's fight against Indian content conglomerate, T-Series. It starts with subscriber counts and ends with a court order. In between, there's racism, hacked printers, billboard purchases, invective of all varieties, and this salvo from the controversial PewDiePie: a "diss track" called "Bitch Lasagna."
If you're inclined to click through and assail yourself with "Bitch Lasagna," you'll be greeted with some of the worst white boy rapping since white boys started rapping. Robert Van Winkle is rolling over in his grave. [Note: My apologies to all of us: I've been informed Mr. Van Winkle is, unfortunately, still alive.] Contained in this video are some slurs against the country of India and its inhabitants -- not all that unexpected for a diss track.
What's a little more unexpected is how far T-Series will go to up its subscriber count and fan the flames of this meaningless -- but lucrative -- battle over numbers in a little red box. There's now a court involved.
Delhi HC has ordered the removal of PewDiePie’s diss tracks against T-Series namely ‘Congratulations’ and ‘Bitch lasagna’, Bar and Bench reports. YouTube has also been ordered to see that these videos are not uploaded on the platform again. If you search for either of the videos on YouTube, you will see that they are not available in India.
[...]
The High Court was of the opinion that the songs have “repeated comments made which are abusive, vulgar and also racist in nature,” according to the report. The matter is currently pending in the Delhi High Court and the next hearing will take place on July 15.
The court isn't wrong. The video contains all of those elements. But this isn't really about someone offending a country with over 1 billion residents. It's about who has the higher subscriber count. By geofencing PewDiePie out of India, T-Series can hope to grab the lead for good. This is a race to the bottom and T-Series has taken the lead by using the power of the government to nuke a competitor's video.
But I'm sure -- given enough time -- PewDiePie or his supporters will find a way to "top" this. Taking control of unsecured devices and vandalizing war memorials is just part of the stupid, stupid game being played here.

Submission + - What are the medical benefits of soccer betting? (blogspot.com)
If you are thinking of buying Malaysia soccer prediction today to win bets then you are missing the real adventure of betting. It is a gambling activity that has many benefits related to entertainment and mental satisfaction.
Let’s discuss the health benefits of soccer betting
Involvement
Betting provides an opportunity to get involved in the action. As an audience, you can only view your favorite team performing on the ground but in reality you want to run with the ball. You want to be with your team and you are with your team. But with betting, you will feel like playing for the team you are betting on.
Real experience
When you bet on a football team, you want it to win the match. You have put your betting amount at stake and if the team loses the game, you will lose the bet. You can’t go after each player to encourage him to perform but you will watch every player and experience the thrill.
Refreshment
How do you take a relaxing break from the backbreaking job? For a break, you either listen to music or take quick snacks. Or you can talk to a friend or watch a short movie. Simply put, you do something that distracts your mind from the pestering issues. If you love soccer, you will also love betting because it is like quick refreshment.
Confidence booster
Winning will boost your confidence and there could be no denying to the fact. You will get the confidence needed to grow in career and social life. And in betting, you can get a quick dose of confidence.
Creativity
If you visit an online soccer betting platform, you will get bets of different types like mixed parlay that is considered the most challenging and fixed odds that is considered easiest bet. As a gambler, you are free to choose your bet. Also, you can find ways to win bets. For example, you can find a reliable tipper for winning bets.
Entertainment
People can do anything for entertainment. They go to places, savor food and socialize with like minded people on social media platforms. But nothing entertains like sports. Watching football with betting is high-octane entertainment missing in other activities.
When you have the option of buying Malaysia soccer prediction today, you need not to worry about losing your money. If you can find a reliable tipster, you will get winning tips every time and you can easily find a trustworthy tipper.
You will be surprised to know that esports betting in Malaysia is available for desktops, laptops, tablets and even phones. You are free to put bets from your phone while enjoying a football match in a stadium. Also, you won’t need a load of cash for soccer betting.

I first learned about libertarian ideals from some of the early Internet users/frequent message posters. IMO, the computer-savvy have always been a bastion of libertarian thought.
I think you have an awful lot of younger people entering the tech workforce, now, who really haven't even given politics that much consideration. For them, it's about "hating Orange man Trump" because that's an easy bandwagon to get on.... and after that? You hear a lot from our "Democratic Socialists" about promises they'll solve their anxiety over money and how they'll pay for things like big student loans or health insurance costs. So they latch on to that platform.
Really though? I think the libertarian aspects of the Internet stemmed more from the vision early users had of it being this empowering form of communication. All of a sudden, you could talk to someone on the other side of the planet, just as easily (and inexpensively!) as talking to your neighbor next door who got online. Once you're no longer tethered to a long distance phone provider who billed you by the minute for a voice call, based on which country you dialed -- you have a new type of freedom. And that ALSO enabled the ability for anyone to become their own online publisher -- producing content that was in reach of any Internet user, the world over.
The fact that some of the tech businesses out there exploit their workforce doesn't mean technology ITSELF helped prove libertarian ideas a failure!
I think at least in America, we need to remember that our government is not and has never been libertarian in nature. The closest it's ever come were a couple of Republican presidents (like Ronald Reagan) who made some very libertarian quotes -- but didn't really do a lot of very libertarian things, politically, to change the system in place.
