Microsoft is Testing Gmail Integration in Outlook.com (engadget.com) 31
Microsoft seems to be testing a new feature that lets users add Google services to their Outlook accounts. From a report: If available on your account, you should see a pop-up that says, "Add your Google Mail and Calendar to Outlook and easily manage everything in one place." Doing so allows you to switch between your Outlook and Gmail inboxes (though this causes the entire browser tab to refresh) and browse your Drive files. It's not clear how Google Calendar is integrated into Outlook. At the moment, you can only select a single Gmail account to sync with Outlook, which could be frustrating since so many people use multiple Gmail addresses.

If I'm using Gsuite and Outlook.com, I betcha I'm using a business-oriented gmail account for that.

You are assuming that website owners have/had programmers who were actually competent and actually *read* the bloody RFC 2822 spec., section 3.4.1, which clearly states "+" is a valid symbol in email names instead of having a fucked up (BROKEN) email validator.
Ironically one of Microsoft's own career websites didn't accept aliases IIRC a few months ago.

Google's own sync app [google.com] already does that (and a couple of other things, too). And can sync multiple Gmail accounts to Outlook. Doesn't include Drive, though.

These days, they're more like "embrace and middle man" - they don't want to extinguish any longer for the same reason a parasite does not want to kill its host.
Bing for Business now allows you to just sync your data with Google My Business rather than actually have to log in.
Hey, if you don't like our email service you can still use us for your Gmail account.
Oh, and we know our security model is terrible. We'll probably just move Windows to the Linux kernel and let someone else handle the hard stuff.

Other than, I think, the sync app [google.com] doesn't include Drive, but it will let you sync multiple Gmail accounts, just like any other multiple account setup in Outlook.

I've been using Gmail and Hotmail through a single linked inbox in Windows Mail and Outlook for Android for a couple years now. How is this different?

Because this is hosted on outlook.com rather than a desktop/mobile client - presumably they're also syncing and storing a copy of all your data while they're at it.

I need a tool to manage my three separate gmail accounts. (work, home, and a throwaway for accounts that require an email address) Oh wait, it's called gmail. (Click on icon in upper right corner, select account, switch. Magical.)

I've been using gmail and many other email services within Thunderbird for many years now. No ads, no spyware, and a single user interface for all. Of them all, gmail is flaky, but it works. Thunderbird, from Mozilla is neglected, antiquated, but it doesn't require a web interface, a login, and all the crap that comes with the internet. And it also keeps me up with several RSS feeds (CSMonitor, The Guardian, The Atlantic, Scientific American) w

What with all the emails I get meant for other people in Gmail and the Russian spam that has recently started appearing in Google Calendar, I'm more than happy with Outlook.com by itself.

Expose these interfaces and this is all we need. Let the clients (ex: Thunderbird or anything else) handle the rest. Period.
Fastmail.com exposes all of this for my domain for a little 50$/year.
