That was my reaction, but my theory underlying this poll (now a series?) can still apply in terms of using the results to pitch advertising. The marketing guru behind the poll is just blurring the line between old people who are kept on as consultants making less much money but really semi-retired and the old people who are just kicked out the door into full retirement. In the real world, the first category might have some serious influence in recommending products and services. It sounds like you are more

You should have seen v.1 of this poll. It was the first 3 options, then "other". I suggested #4-6, and then they added in retired/consultant, which I think is implying that retired people tend to consult for awhile afterwards. I agree with you that's a bit insulting to people who consult for a living.
I'm not sure why consulting is included in there at all - if you're a consultant, you're still filling one of the other roles described.

In reality, my role(s) across my medium-sized biz customers fit almost all of the categories listed. In any one day, depending on the customer and their crisis de jour, I'm being a Linux sysadmin, a client-side Javascript coder, a database designer, a maintenance programmer, a WordPress admin, and/or a network intrusion specialist. Seriously though, I am not sure why retired needs to be paired with another or really included at all. It is a poll asking what roll you fill. If you are not working, the poll doesn't apply. That could be taking a break, unemployed, retired, or other.

Unemployment in the IT field is still pretty low right now, though, mostly because someone has to keep the servers and the VPN's running to keep businesses alive. If you wanted a job, I'd imagine that Zoom and Netflix are hiring at the moment.

This poll is radio button, but maybe should be checkboxes. I do IT-, Network- and dev-Ops; manage staff (are end of year reviews of technical staff IT work or admin? how about budgets?); every now again I do data scientist sort of work; and some of all that is client facing work, which I'd call "consulting" at least sometimes. As a tech-startup founder I voted 'other', but agree on checkboxes.
