That's crap. (Score:5, Insightful)
Your statement that PCs are for casual gamers is just totally wrong. If anything, I'd say quite the opposite. The PC is used as a gaming platform mainly for top-notch graphics and CONTROL. This means first person shooters, which are arguably the most hardcore gamers (Quake, Doom, Half-Life).
Also, people buy consoles because, like Macs, they just work. No fiddling around with hardware or drivers or controls; everything is already set up for you. I would say that consoles are more casual, because you just pop in the game and play. Because of their simplicity, kids are a HUGE market for consoles. Every family I know that has children has either a PS2, XBox, or another recent console (usually more than one). They also usually have PCs, but aren't really geared towards gaming on them.
That's not to say that there aren't casual PC gamers and hardcore console gamers; I just don't think you can generalize PC gamers as casual or console gamers as "lazy".

N64 and GC emu coders are largely morons. Read emutalk sometime. They're committed Windows fanboys who suck DirectX's dick. The best emulator the most recent versions of the two best emulators aren't open source, and NONE of the good GPU and SPU plugins are open source.
Then look at the PSX world. PCSX is open source. many (if not all?) Pete's plugins are open source. Pete does both OpenGL and DirectX. PSX emu is unified. N64 emu is disorganized, chaotic, and filled with egotistical coders. As a result, PSX emu compatability is so good, you can expect most commercial games to work. ALREADY! It's amazing. N64 is nowhere near this.
No, this is no excuse, I'm not refuting your point, just ranting. If you're patient enough, these issues will get sorted out. I'm in no rush to play cutting edge games, but despite that, I already have Smash Brothers, Goldeneye, and Mariokart, my 3 favorite multiplayer N64 games working flawlessly.Buying consoles to play cutting edge games makes you a hardcore gamer, not a casual gamer. Waiting around for them to be easily emulated on your PC makes you casual. Disagree all you like, that's my opinion. I certainly don't feel like a hardcore gamer seeing as how all I do is emulate a handful of games for social gatherings and play two free MMOs on weekends.
Ease of use is a good argument, but emulators only get easier to use as time passes. It's all about this patience thing. Being an emulation enthusiast, it's people like me who go wade through the mud in order to build the bridge for the commoner. People are starting to realize that PCs only get more and more games into infinity, especially thanks to emulation, while consoles eventually become obsolete and need to be totally replaced.
One might argue PCs need replacement as well, and they cost more, but I remind people who argue this that PCs are 1. used for more than just games and 2. have FAR more game availability for the above mentioned reasons. It's worth the investment; consoles are not. At least in my opinion.
