Amazon To Freeze Hiring in Corporate Workforce

Amazon will freeze hiring in its corporate workforce as the e-commerce giant deals with an "unusual macro-economic environment," a company executive said on Thursday. From a report: "We anticipate keeping this pause in place for the next few months, and will continue to monitor what we're seeing in the economy and the business to adjust as we think makes sense," Beth Galetti, senior vice-president of People Experience and Technology at Amazon, said in a blog post. The company has already paused hiring in some of its businesses in recent weeks, but intends to hire a "meaningful" number of people next year, Galetti added.

Also, what exactly is a "meaningful" number. It's not terribly flowery as far as corporate droid speak goes, but it doesn't mean anything. Zero is a very meaningful number if it's how many potatoes you have left to eat.

I was going to post something similar. But they paid heading towards a billion dollars for a series that purposely took a big honking Taco Bell diarrhea shit all over LOTR, and they gotta make up for that some way. Rumor has it there were only 10K viewers for the last episodes.

Protip 1: Hire people who respect the works of one of the most important authors of all time.

Protip 2: Hire people who are capable of writing a compelling and interesting script

Protip 3: Hire people who have actually read anything of Tolkien. Even better, all of it.

It was like a all male reboot of Little Women. Total disrespect for a well documented and laid out universe.

Galadriel was demoted from the most powerful, and chill person in Middle earth, to a rude, low level male character who has few redeeming qualities.

They utterly disrespected her in trying to promote her as a brawling "strong" modern version of what a woman is.

Not sure what problems he had, but, as someone who isn't a Tolkien fan, the series moved along pretty slowly. Nothing much of anything happened until the last two episodes. You basically could have just watched those.

Amazon bonuses will feature sneak previews of alternate ROP storylines, an erotic version for the well sex sells, the action violence tilt and even the one which Bezos, er that is Sauron succeeded. Went on to create a mega Corp but those pesky little people kept trying to nip at his mega powers. You were wondering where all that money was spent, the special cuts for Bezos private viewing with his elite cadre.

until now they have intentionally kept a massive turnover rate (like 70% per every year or two) for AWS and Prime video developer roles. You'll find horror stories of people who were promoted without a raise just so that their boss had a means to put them on the chopping block to meet their layoff quota. Look up amazon's PIPs (performance improvement plans) which serve this purpose.

Amazon as an employer sounds like a bad girlfriend who will covince you that you're worthless just to squeeze more out of you.

Yep.... AWS employment is likely the most dysfunctional thing you'll ever find yourself in the middle of. Been there, done that, and literally got the t-shirt.

I was seriously considering putting myself through their interview slog, including they're hours of prep and YouTube videos just to get to the first round. But stories like you're alluding to make me decide that it wasn't worth the time investment for a maybe job that was maybe lucrative on a year to year basis. After reading these headlines I'm very grateful to have stayed where I am.
