Besides that, there may be mitigating circumstances. I'm one of the people who preach Linux endlessly, but still boots to his old Windows 98 partition to play games. Is this hypocritical? No, I don't think so, since I can't afford anything but the bargain bin games. I think Linux is far far superior for me, and probably for more people than actually use it. I believe in the ideas of Free Software and Open Source, but I don't think it's an absolute necessity in all cases, so I use closed software too. Does this make me hypocritical? Or just practical?
I dislike what the RIAA is doing, but I'm still willing to buy the occasional new CD. Does this make me hypocritical? Or just a fan who would sacrifice a little bit to help out a band I really care about, even if it means helping the RIAA too?
My personal motto is that hypocrisy makes the world go 'round, but hypocrisy comes in many flavors and shades. The nature of the world today is that to be anything but a little hypocritical implies that your standards are too low, that you're not aiming high enough. In principle I'd love to say no to things like AOTC. I'd love to be able to not eat meat. I'd love to be able to only use Free Software. I'd love to be able to vote in an informed matter in every election, both national and local. See a therapist, since another million or so have already given up meat, leather, fur, dairy and anything animal-related. You want to only use free software? Then do it.
One of the most annoying things I hear is "I'd like to, but I can't". Yes, you can, and it isn't even that difficult. Put down the games, or whatever, for a few hours and just think about what you really believe in and what is most important to you...once you do that, going through with these things is easy. At the very least, you may decide these various issues aren't right for you, and you can just respect the people who do them without feeling any guilt.

If you completely boycott the media you find entertaining, you punish yourself way more than them. You can wait for video, but they make a lot from that too. You can wait for broadcast TV, but then the movie will be censored and/or cut; or you can pirate the film and justify what they're doing.
