Legendary designer Jony Ive and OpenAI's Sam Altman are enlisting an Apple veteran to work on a new AI hardware project, aiming to create devices with the latest capabilities. From a report: As part of the effort, outgoing Apple executive Tang Tan will join Ive's design firm LoveFrom, which will shape the look and capabilities of the new products, according to people familiar with the matter. Altman, an executive who has become the face of modern AI, plans to provide the software underpinnings, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the endeavor isn't public.

Am I the only one who considers Ive's product designs as extremely overrated? Bland. Not interesting. Not good looking. Too much form over function.
Nope, his and Jobs' "My way or the highway" approach to design has seen some really bad developments in HMI/HCI. That's why they invented UX, to explain why their design decisions didn't make functional sense with pseudoscience.

It's weird that he's described as legendary when he has never designed anything that revolutionary. He hasn't really designed anything actually useful and better than whatever is already available. Prettier versions, maybe, but nothing legendary.

His stuff was not bland, though. He's had some of the weirdest looking computer cases in history.
