This is actually by design. Their model is not profit, it's growth and innovation. It's a new economy where the balance sheet is becoming less and less a key factor for large corporations, and for the most part shareholders are ok with it because investments are made in the short term and the skyrocketing share price is more attractive than actual equity or dividends.

Not true. Even a press release cannot contain materially false financial information. It can contain puffery, and hype, but it cannot contain outright false financial information about revenue or profits. Public companies are not allowed to lie to the public about their finances.

The name of that charter is misleading. The purpose of that document is not to protect citizens, it's to give to the federal government the opportunity to override any court decision made in one of the provinces under the pretense of protecting the citizens. It is a huge loophole that gives to federal politicians the power to overrule judges.

That charter is what allowed things like islamic courts to appear in Ontario, and was used to override a Quebec courts decision to forbid Sikh schoolboys from bringing a knife at school.
