the HIPAA EDI transaction codes are X12 837 (claim/encounter transactions), X12 270 and 271 (eligibility inquiries and responses), X12 276 and 277 (claim status inquiries and responses), X12 278 (referrals and prior authorization transactions), X12 835 (health care payment and remittance information), and X12 275 (health claims attachments).
Huh. Which of those do I use to order a CBC? Which one sends a history and physical to the hospital? Which one does the MRI machine use to send me the picture of your brain? (trick question!)
Everyone's been using these transactions for years, but they are not relevant to the issue being discussed here.
“It is fully possible to permit law enforcement to do its job while still adequately protecting personal privacy,”
It is if we are permitted to keep our own information secret from law enforcement except when compelled to deliver it by warrant.
As if regular examples of law enforcement taking advantage of their access to data to spy on current and ex-spouses,boy/girlfriends, family, etc aren't enough of a warning to say NO to this, the fact that they wish to have the Fourth and Fifth Amendments circumvented in law should be enough to deny this.
We must say no.
"They want it to be illegal for you to have information they can't readily get."
THIS.
Forgot the link, awesome. http://www.connotech.com/FAXBI...
Faxes are secure? Not likely. It would be easy to tap into the phone line of a hospital or a lawyer, run the receive pair to a fax machine, and print off a copy of every fax that comes through. See here for a more detailed overview.
But at the same time it makes crime significantly harder, puts up barriers against suicide
Huh??? I own an M1 Garand, total length 43.5 inches. It would take little more than dexterity to use it to end my own life. Presumably most people that intend to commit suicide have toes, right?
20 years ago, my dad and I came home from a camping trip a day early, but late at night. If my mom had been armed, she would have shot at both of us.
Gosh, if only there was a way to have let your Mom know that it was the two of you instead of a would-be rapist. Perhaps you could have yelled out "HI MOM, WE'RE HOME EARLY!" as you entered the house. Nah, that couldn't possibly work. It's a damn good thing for you she wasn't armed or you'd be dead now. I have the same fear every time I come home early, but thankfully my girlfriend has evolved some pretty neat biological features like eardrums that reduce the likelihood of this happening....
"But what we need to know is, do people want nasally-insertable computers?"
