Zoom Fires Its President After Only 10 Months

Zoom has sacked its president, Greg Tomb, a former Google employee who only began working at the company around 10 months ago. Insider reports: Zoom said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that Tomb's termination was effective as of Friday. He will receive severance benefits in line with his employment arrangements, which are payable upon a "termination without cause," according to the SEC filing. The filing was signed off by Aparna Bawa, the chief operating officer at Zoom.

It is unclear who will take over Tomb's position as president of Zoom. A spokesperson from Zoom told Insider the company won't find a replacement for Tomb and declined to comment further. Tomb's LinkedIn profile shows that he joined Zoom as president in June 2022. Before this, he worked at Google for more than a year as the vice president of sales for Google Workspace, Security, and Geo Enterprise. Tomb was also previously a president at software firm SAP and computer programming provider Vivido Labs, according to LinkedIn. He is a member of the board of Pure Storage, a tech company, his LinkedIn profile said.

rather than enhance zoom to be a better product.

somebody else will figure out how to have zoom on mobile platforms while looking at stuff.

I'm not surprised. Two business clients signed contracts with zoom and they failed to provide the services in under a week. The whole company seems to be a mess.

I never had that, but I do get frequent updates. I see a lot of companies asking for updates nonstop like my former employer. Argh. :(

I cancelled my Zoom pro subscription...

They added nagware (logging in to Zoom client had an annoying marketing banner that always returned no matter how many times I dismissed it, and another popup would appear whenever a meeting ended). I found more complaints on the Zoom forums about it. It seemed to apply only to some accounts but it was super annoying. Their support team confirmed its by design and there's no way to disable it. And so, I asked for a refund and cancelled my subscription. I don't get why they feel they had to nag paying customers? I also realise, this company will likely disappear into obscurity like so many hot tech startups in the past.

Eventually companies will learn that having FAANG on your resume guarantees nothing. If anything, people there get to ride the wave rather then the struggles of making a smaller company profitable.

the annoying time limit on the free plans finally got to me, and galene.org got good enough to use everyday. Then the p2p calling in matrix.org got to be awesome, and soon there will be stacked SFUs there... why have a 3rd party on your own traffic that you cannot possibly trust? Zoom squandered their early lead, and I imagine, spent all the money on cocaine and hookers.

I don't see Teams going away. It's "free" with your Office 365 subscription, and almost nobody manages their own Exchange servers anymore.
