FFVII Advent Children Leaked 116

FF7:AC Movie writes "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children has been leaked on the Internet early this morning by a pirate group from Hong Kong known as BiEN (which incidentally means good in French). The Square-Enix film was due to release in Japan on September 14th 2005 after numerous delays. As for the North American release date, it has been pushed back to a cloudy end of November."

It was inevitable, no one can escape this, especially after all the delays and false hope. It creates grudge from the fans.

But I'm sure most fans will also buy the DVD, if they find a mean of distribution for it...
    • Possibly inevitable, but start making it sound like the legality has thrown up in the trash can isn't the best way to mention about it.

Besides saying 'most fans will' doesn't really give a sympathy to the developers much.

  • "Bien" also means "well" in Spanish.

      1. Who gives a fuck what it means in Spanish, not to mention what it means in French. It's an HK group name.

      2. "Bien" means "well" in French too. The French word for "good" is "bon." The submitter probably doesn't even speak French, so who knows why he threw in that false anecdote. Zonk, I know you get a lot of flak, but this is the kind of irrelevant and incorrect stuff that should be trimmed out of article submissions.
    • Lets think about the delicate differences of well and good. When you ask a mexican how they are doing, they will often say "bien". Damnit, we usually respond "good" aparently they are responding "well" so whats up? Are the mexicans good? or mearly well?

I dont know why you said well over good. What confusion to cause, to say that bein means good as opposed to well (wich in this topic has already been established as a positive afformatio)" is to add more confusion. Now when Lassi takes a trip south of the bor

For all the bashing that Final Fantasy: The spirits within has recieved you'd think that it was the worst movie ever created; which it wasn't.

The reality was that FF:TSW was actually a pretty good anime movie; had it had a more traditional animation style and not been named Final Fantasy it probably would be among the most well recieved Anime movies outside of Japan. In my opinion it has become the but of so many jokes because many videogame players (that don't watch anime) decided to see the movie expecting to see a bunch of cut-scenes from final fantasy 7 and what they really got was an original movie.

In many ways this is the mentality that is destroying videogames; people are not willing to accept a well crafted experiance unless it is the experiance that they personally wanted. People didn't want Super Mario Sunshine they wanted Super Mario 64 with prettier graphics; people didn't want The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker they wanted "super-cool 1337 'Mature' Zelda"; and so on and so forth. The thing that really annoys me about this is one minute these brain-dead slobs are complaining that games are getting boring and nothing new is getting developed and another minute they are bitching that a well crafted game was not developed exactly like the previous ones were.

In my opinion you can't have it both ways; either you accept the new ideas and directions that a movie or videogame developer decides to take their product or you accept that there will be no progress in the industry. Personally, I have no desire to play the same game over again anymore (nor do I want to see the same movie over again) so I tend to accept most new directions.
      • i think we (even those of us who DO watch anime) were just upset that they put the Final Fantasy name on a movie that really shouldn't have been associated with such a beloved franchise. Perhaps if it were marketed as "By the creators of Final Fantasy" rather than being labeled part of Final Fantasy, we wouldn't have had such expectations.

Why? What about it was not Final Fantasy? It had all the FF cliches: a quest to go round the world collecting seven something-or-others, a party of misfits, a crazy villain who trys to destroy stuff just for t
      • I remember hearing in a 3D animation class a while back that Spirits Within had the lowest turnout of any computer animated movie ever made. Say what you will, but there's more going on here than just "Anime-style movie". (The professor's theory was that the Uncanny Valley [wikipedia.org] was to blame; this doesn't sound unreasonable to me--I remember liking the theme of the plot, but being unable to get into the movie).

Ah well... Anyway, this is nothing new. I saw the Family Guy movie months ago. In fact, when I went to the IMDB to post about it, I noticed an exchange to the effect of the following:

Guy 1: Teh Family Guy movie is teh awesomes!!
Guy 2: Stupid fanboy, the movie isn't out yet. Don't review something you haven't even SEEN!
Guy 3: Umm.. The movie's been out on the net for several weeks, and we've ALL already seen it. stfu

Well, no movie can ever truely be "just hype"

For example, I loved The Spirits Within and thought it was a great movie. I enjoyed it both on a technological level, and on a storyline/execution level (I liked it as a movie) You're obviously implying that TSW was just hype, but to some people, myself included, it was more than hype, it was a good movie.

Be careful with your choice of words; not everybody hates every movie that you do.

All the reviews from casual people or FFVI- fans have been less than glowing. The FFVI people not liking it for a variety of reasons, and the casual people not understanding anything (supposedly no backstory is presented) and seeing the movie as mostly convoluted nonsense.

  • What's even more saddening is that the last street date of 11/29 has now been changed by sony to TBA, so we may be looking at a Q1 2006 release. I hope not.
  • The question that we all want answered before we start downloading:
Does Tifa give it up, or what?
  • According to IMDB [imdb.com], Eminem has a role as Mr. Coates? What the hell? I thought this was a japanese film..? Can anyone explain?
  • And perputually strung along customer, I am happily downloading this for a number of reasons - not the least of which is the continual backsliding Square has towards it's Non-Japenese audience. There's a good chance I may still pick up the film, if it makes it out by then end of this year.

Consider yourselves warned square - your loyal fanbase will only take so many blows before something like this affects your bottom line.

  • It doesn't look likely that Advent Children will hit the US this year, so it's either than expensive import, this, or being really patient. I don't think Final Fantasy VII fans can wait much longer.
