I know 45 minutes in I was blowing a .00, but I have no idea how accurate the cheapo breathalyzer is (it even feels cheap with a battery case that doesn't quite fit, an LCD screen, and a "detector" behind the grill that looks like it isn't quite mounted straight).

I do know this, it beeps quite loudly at anything over a .06. No way you could miss what it considers a fail. No idea what jurisdiction .06 is considered drunk.

My wife gave me a breathalyzer as a joke. I rarely drink away from where I am sleeping for the night, to make the world safer for me.

I decided to try this cheap-ass pocket AAA battery run breathalyzer out. I took a shot of vodka, blew a 0.07. I waited 15 minutes, blew a 0.02. How drunk do you have to be to not pass a breathalyzer?

The common denominator apps for Web, Twitter, Maps, Angry Birds, MP3 player and whatnot are basically equal across platforms. You can easily adapt to the peculiarities of one, so that the familiarity becomes an actual asset. Differentiation is then minor preferences in form factor, UI idiosyncrasy, etc.

But when you get to serious applications for music recording, editing and processing - or astronomical observation - or organising a rock climbing expedition - or any other rather specialised pursuit?

iOS is really the leader space. Because the tablet really is all about the apps. I can do everything from replace a 4-track studio to manage XBMC/Kodi, before a jailbreak. Nobody bothers with this stuff for Win or Droid. They seem destined for Spotify not Garage Band.

What, if anything, would you do for the poor and hungry if this came to pass?

Let them eat chicken.

In what way would that be better than adopting and investing in available technologies?

It's not "better", you do both. It's not clear that there are any technologies which will let us continue deforesting without consequences.

there's also a difference between posting verifiable objective truths and, well, being a dick about it.

Making a cute joke by changing the expected ending of a bit of useless glurge to something unexpected doesn't count as "being a dick".

I'm certainly not going to bust into any of Dr. DeGrasse-Tyson's celebrations and go out of my way to tell him why the reason he celebrates it is bullshit

His original tweet doesn't say anything negative about Christmas or Jesus. He didn't comment on how the church usurped the winter solstice with a made-up birthday, he didn't snipe that at least Newton actually exists, he didn't even mock the annual materialism-fest. He just wished Newton a happy birthday.

Look at it this way - If he had made a similarly clever tweet where you expected the ending to involve the tooth fairy, would anyone have cried foul?
