I have a friend who was a medical entomologist and journal editor before he retired. I ran into him while I was browsing a book table at a conference, and mentioned that I'd like to buy one of the medical entomology textbooks but the $250 price tag was a bit steep.

"Just wait," he said. "I'm about to change that. I'm writing a new textbook that will be a lot cheaper. I want students and public health departments to be able to afford a solid medical entomology reference."

When his book came out the publisher set the priced at $500. It was twice as expensive any of its competitors. Now something like this is never going to sell like a basic calculus book, but it has a considerably larger market than you'd think. His idea was that it would find its way into the syllabus in medical, veterinary and public health schools; and that hospitals and public health agencies would buy copies for their libraries. But his strategy to make that happen by making the book affordable and sell in (relatively) high numbers; the publisher had other plans.

So don't blame authors for high textbook prices. It's publishers who set the price.

B) I'm jumping on the partisan band wagon? How is that? All I did was point out that illegal immigration was irrelevant in the context of the forced inoculation debate. I didn't even voice an oppinion on the overall subject.

Maybe you could look at modding existing games as a start. Take what is already there and change it, learning how it works and how things like game logic are implemented. Modern games have some pretty powerful tools that allow the designers to do what you son wants to.

Whose goal? And where did you get such an idea? No one is saying that they should stop making CoD or LoL or whatever it is you play.

There's this subcommunity of " 15 - 25 year old male gamers" that gets their game info from youtubers. Gamergate "personalities" tend to be the sort of guys who do those let's plays and youtube game reviews who go by "nicks" not their real names. So it's "totalbiscuit" says this, or "poopoodie" says that.

I have that account because at some point I bought Rogers Internet service, and email was part of what I was buying in the package. Eventually Rogers outsourced their email to Yahoo!, so I have an email account that is paid for and that I never imagined would be handled by Yahoo! I am actually a paying customer, you dumb shit.
