This honestly seems like a trivial issue in 10-20 years. Automation, robotics, AI are all progressing nicely and I can envision an automated picker that identifies all the different materials, diverts each to the appropriate stream.

I bicycle to work 10 miles each way through urban/suburban landscapes. I'd prefer to either ban glass bottles or implement a glass tax that pays for really world class street sweeping.

Your conspiracy isn't very well functioning. I've been able to read numerous high profile articles about the increasing homeless issue over the last 10 years. I know how important it is for a certain type of person to feel persecuted, but it isn't very accurate in this case.

I think it varies a lot regionally. I ride on city streets in the sf bay area and generally feel safe and respected by motorists. If anything it is annoying how they sometimes follow me slowly instead of riding the center line and passing me on narrow streets. I also rode a lot in Denver, and had similar experiences.

I've also been places where motorists are rude to cyclists. I hate to perpetuate regional stereotypes so I'll stop here.

Nope. These were talking about how happy they were that they can accept credit cards now. The merchant fees are cheaper than handling cash.

Are you sure? I was talking to some cannabis shop owners who claim that handling cash is about the same cost as handling plastic. You have to account for shrinkage, time spent counting, employees making deposits, etc.

I've never understood this. Why is it fine for someone to be a bad driver, hit and kill someone, no prob. However, if you are a drunk driver or a distracted driver you are in super big trouble now! Seems like we are rewarding bad drivers.

The truly strange thing is when a drunk or distracted driver gets busted without even hurting anyone else, while bad drivers hurt people and are not punished.

You couldn't be wronger. Shit is a huge problem all over. I've seen it everywhere from Nob Hill to the embarcadero but it is really bad in the grungier parts, say around 6th & market. The city and many businesses power wash their sidewalk every frickin day, and they still can't keep up with the river of shit that is unleashed on the city.

There aren't enough beach area homes for everyone who wants one to have one. That is why they are so expensive. Renting them makes sense, clearly there are a lot of people willing to pay to stay by the beach for a while.

The alternative is pretty awful, only people who were lucky enough to buy or inherit a home can have one and everyone else is locked out.

That is a beautiful way to keep prices low! I kind of like how that reduces the incentive for people to buy speculatively. It's pretty dysfunctional how remote investors have distorted prices in the sf bay area, vancouver, etc.

Horses lead better lives objectively now than they did a hundred years ago. There are about 1/10th as many horses today. I'd say in 100 years it would be nice if there were 1/10th as many humans and their lives were free of drudgery and suffering.
