:-) I never dreamed that in my lifetime I would see the day when people believe that eliminating the need to be a slave to somebody is a bad thing. Is this why we still enjoy 10,000 year old technology and thinking today? We are definitely living in a sadomasochist world. It's the only explanation left after throwing out all the others for being dead-ends.

Why do you need a 'job' if a machine can produce anything you need for nothing? And that includes growing your food and building your house, and maybe even building yourself a little island wherever you want to be at that moment. I thought this would be the goal, to eliminate the the need for you to "run an engine lathe eight unfucking hours a day"..

*sigh*. You all definitely make it very clear why there can be problems with automation. You look through the tiny peephole of your little boxes. You dig two miles deep and declare that's all there is. You utterly fail to see why an 'economy' becomes obsolete with the lack of human effort needed to sustain and prosper. I don't know how to be more obvious, not in a nice way that you would let your children read.

Every animal affects its environment, and that has nothing to do with this, which is a man made environment to begin with. And it is being ruthlessly contaminated by powerful people. Unlike the climate this one is easy to fix.

You not making any sense and haven't understood a word I said. Even with today's technology all 7.5 billion of us could live like kings and queens. It is pure pure greed and arrogance that prevents it. With machines doing the work, the free abundance is even more obvious. There will be no need to coerce people into performing a service for another.

Let me tell you how fucked up people are. I can't remember where I saw it, but I read this story about India where a company makes two versions of the exact same product. One looks much more glitzy and sells at a much higher price. The market for the expensive version consists of those who do not want to be seen using anything their maid can afford. This is the attitude that stills rules the world. This is why people remain sick, hungry, and poor. This is why humans still need to work. This is how they are enslaved.

We won't need to keep people employed to have a robust prosperous society. We only need to share the abundance of what we actually overproduce now. But our present economic system demands that it be discarded and destroyed, to keep the price up. How fucked up is that?

Funny how nobody gave Afghanistan the same benefit of the doubt, and with just as flimsy of 'evidence'. Surrounded by a bunch of damn hypocrites.

And watch what happens now...

Well, I am really just talking about energy, and I was off by a few years. Sorry for the confusion.

Point is that machine made objects don't cost us anything(they won't in the future anyway). We shouldn't have to pay anybody if they put no effort into it and the machine did it all. I think what people are scared of is the their precious capitalism will become obsolete, and their social/economic privileges and advantages will vanish. So they spread FUD that we will starve if we don't keep making trinkets for them.

Patience, there is more on the way. And if you're in a hurry you can always roll yer own

"limited resources" is bullshit. They are only limited by the human effort and will required to extract and process them. Machines can find endless supplies while we sit back and watch. And once we consume all of earth, the machines will fly off to catch asteroids and other small planets. We have enough to where we could grow at our present rate for 1400 years before we can consume all the resources of the entire solar system (2500 for the whole galaxy). So, maybe we should slow down a bit, eh?

What a bullshit question! Everything should be free then. DUH! If there is no need for work, there is no need to ration goods and services to those who can 'pay'. Human effort is the only thing that requires compensation.

The evils of copyright law are well documented and understood. It has destroyed whatever good intentions there may have been in the original concept. And now it is obvious what will always come of it, censorship and sanction. Why should anything contrary to the facts ever be modded up?

Screwing the public is the very essence of our culture. Fairness and justice? And mercy?? Perish the thought! Pleasure must be carefully regulated and rationed. That's how you create a market and high demand.

Everybody does profit from the works of others. We all share profit. Copyright is a public liability, not an asset. It impedes communication and knowledge for the advantage of a few, because ignorance is power!
