If a climate model can't explain/show the past history of observed data, then how can it be relied upon to predict the future?
Release all the data used for these claims, as well as the model. Isn't saving the world more important than being secretive with this information? Or is it more important to keep the incoming funding and celebrity?

Paris Climate Deal Adopted 292

Countries will have to publish greenhouse gas reduction targets and revise them upward every 5 years, while striving to drive down their carbon output as soon as possible, under the ambitious climate-change pact announced Saturday morning at UN talks in Paris. The agreement commits countries to keeping global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius and hopes to limit it to 1.5 C, with the goal of a carbon-neutral world sometime after 2050. The 31-page text called the Paris Agreement (PDF) was distributed to countries for them to assess, then agreed to at a plenary session.

Wrong. Most artists have a system either through their label on their own called licensing. If someone wants to pay an artist to promote a product, or be used to present a lifestyle that is attractive to potential customers or voters. When these political campaigns purchase a license, most artists don't have a veto over it, and take to the court of public opinion to shame the politicians into not using their music. Fuck those artists. If they want to sell their product to a specific ideological crowd, they should say that up front. Those that are 'all about the music' and 'taking a message of $PEACE$LOVE$WHATEVER to the people', and then cry when someone with some media exposure uses their product in a legal contractual way should be given an Iron Maiden treatment. Fuck. Them.
Oracle Sues 5 Oregon Officials For 'Improper Influence' 83
SpzToid writes: Following up on an earlier Slashdot story, the Oracle Corporation has filed a rather timely suit against five of former governor John Kitzhaber's staff for their "improper influence" in the decision to shutter the Cover Oregon healthcare website, while blaming Oracle to defuse the political consequences. Oracle argues the website was ready to go before the state decided to switch to the federal exchange in April.
"The work on the exchange was complete by February 2014, but going live with the website and providing a means for all Oregonians to sign up for health insurance coverage didn't match the former-Governor's re-election strategy to 'go after' Oracle," Oracle spokeswoman Deborah Hellinger said in a statement.
Kitzhaber resigned last week amid criminal probes into an influence-peddling scandal involving allegations that his fiancée used her position in his office for personal gain.

When the good doctor and his associates release all this data that was used to create their model, he is guilty of cherry picking data points and data manipulation. All the secrecy and denial of data release makes his conclusions suspect, regardless of their accuracy.
Dish Pulls Fox News, Fox Business Network As Talks Break Down 275
An anonymous reader writes Fox News and Fox Business were pulled by Dish Network over the weekend, as both continue to argue over a fee agreement. From the article: "Dish said in a statement early Sunday morning that 21st Century Fox had blocked access to the two networks after Dish balked when rates for other networks owned by the media conglomerate were made a part of the negotiations. Tim Carry, executive vice president of distribution at Fox News Channel, countered in a statement that "Dish prematurely ceased distribution of Fox News in an attempt to intimidate and sway our negotiations. It is unfortunate that the millions of Fox News viewers on Dish were used as pawns by their provider. Hopefully they will vote with their hard earned money and seek another one of our other valued distributors immediately."
