Uber on the Hunt For Strategic Alternatives for Uber Elevate (axios.com) 7

Uber is seeking strategic alternatives for its Uber Elevate business, including strategic partnerships or a partial sale, Axios reported Friday, citing multiple sources. From the report: This reflects Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi's obsession with achieving profitability, as evidenced by partial sales of Uber's money-losing freight and self-driving units. Uber Elevate's goal is to develop a network of self-driving taxis, with its website suggesting a launch year of 2023.

    Holy shit! They bought Otis??

  • self-driving cars owned by subs who have no funds to pay for victims damages when they get in an crash.

Uber can say that local fleet is own / leased by joe's taxi lcc you need to sue them for damages. Even when all of the code / hardware is from Uber but they don't want to have to take on the costs of being an owner of an big fleet of cars so they get an franchise to cover that cost.

  • Self driving cars is the only path forward for Uber. It's pretty clear that eventually their run around labor laws will be stopped.

Then again, with a conservative 7-3 majority on the Supreme Court and the Dems either too corrupt or too weak to pack the courts they might just win on labor law.

That'll suck for us. If Uber wins at the Supreme Court level it's only matter of time before all labor is piece meal. All us /.ers will be relabled as "contractors" and paid per server rebooted or something.
    • Then again, with a conservative 7-3 majority on the Supreme Court

That would be an already "packed" court, since there are currently only 9 seats on it. Who sits on whose lap?

  • Given the amount of their profit losses, learning to dig could be useful...
  • Is Uber near chapter 11 or is my impression wrong?

From recent news they have been laying off a huge number of people, apparently replacing some of those with cheap offshore people, selling several units, their self-driving venture seems going nowhere and has a death on record and, of course, loose over a billion every quarter...

One more unicorn biting the dust.
