My take is to have everyone vote in the open on the slashdot page. Any other method, like an outside page, is too easy for venue partisans to influence and/or destroy. Here we can tell that everyone is voting once and no one is hijacking someone elses slashdot ID.
My hope, for anyone following this thread, is that venue ideas will have been cleared with the venue in advance to prevent fiascos.

If anyone's still following this party, post your venue ideas with a description and whatever you think the pluses and minuses are. Please indicate if you've contacted the venue to see if they like the idea. My idea is to do all the voting on the slashdot page to avoid vote manipulation by venue partisans or random idiots.
I have a few ideas, none of them perfect, but am waiting for venues to get back. Here's one that's OK with the idea.

A record store / cafe / bar / venue
Cafe + full bar == all ages + booze. There is a record store / cafe on the ground floor with coffee, pastry, cafe food and vinyl. It's a little small but there is a downstairs full bar for overflow or people who like darkness with their alcohol - 2 for 1 happy hour until 8. They have rock bands starting around 8 but the upstairs is open till midnight maybe later.

I had ever-so-briefly considered getting a poster-sized Goatse printed up, bringing it, and sticking it to the wall when nobody was looking. That plan fizzled when I realized it'd entail actually bringing that job into a print shop..

Seriously, wherever this ends up, buy something from the venue - beer / coffee / whatever and leave a tip. Good standard practice when hanging out a bar or cafe.

That's why I mentioned it. I always tip wherever I am. It's genetic (NY native).
It's weird getting better service in the EU when they realize you're 'merican. Dining with locals they get annoyed when the tip comes up as they don't want to get that started. Gotta suck for the bartenders.
