Cadbury Site Puts Bollywood Star in AI-Generated Ads For Local Businesses (www.bgr.in) 17

"Big businesses and brands that suffered during the pandemic found their way back," says a new ad from the British confectionary company Cadbury. "But the smallest stores still suffer..."

So in response, Cadbury "has come up with an AI tool that will enable customers to create an ad for their local stores for free," reports BGR — and all the ads magically include Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan: Cadbury (via NW18) says that it has used machine learning and AI technology to recreate the actor's face and voice that will be used to mention and promote a local store's name in the ad. To make it easy for local shopkeepers, it has put up a dedicated website notjustacadburyad.com to help them create their 'custom promotional videos.'

"Since it is not possible to cover every local store, we give the power to the people to create their own version... " Cadbury mentions in the ad.

Apparently Cadbury is then targetting different versions of the final ad to each viewer's location (so the actor always appears to be saying the names of stores that are local to them).

The ad closes with the real Shah Rukh Khan saying warmly that "The small stores around us deserve to have a happy Diwali."

counting down the days till they sneak palm oil back in and start to claim "glass and a half" is a marketing phrase and doesn't imply real milk is used in the chocolate. They already started using chocolate instead of "dairy milk chocolate" in some of the products to get around the promise.

  • Yes. Appeal to their religions like Diwali fest. It works great with Christians and their holidays.

It's nice and refreshing to see deep-fake technology being used in a good way.

Not sure I like that idea of the ads being targetted at me, but I respect the effort and thought behind it, at least at the technical level.

    • These aren't targeting you, yet anyway, what is happening is the local business is being given tools to create a higher quality ad then they normally would.
  • So it just adds the name of specific local store (you select in a dropdown) in the speech audio and maybe overlays some lip movement to match the phonetics.l. Like a thousand other apps which do that sort of thing with any pic or video. Though the quality is very good here.

And it's a Great idea too. But nothing AI about it. I was expecting you upload some pics & videos of your local store and it will incorporate that into the background of the video. Maybe with you standing right next to the actor on th

  • Cadbury gets an ad and goodwill galore. Shah Rukh Khan gets huge exposure and a nice paycheck. Small businesses get a pitch man they could never afford. Sounds awesome to me!

In any formula, constants (especially those obtained from handbooks) are to be treated as variables.
