TheBouncer2006 writes "Today Alienware has released the limited-edition Superman Desktop PCs and Notebooks. Only 250 desktop PCs and 350 notebooks will be produced."

Impressive! Who knew you could get a laptop with a Superman logo for only $4000? Barebones is around $2500.

  The best part is that all you get is a normal system with an added graphic. The desktop doesn't even have anything on the face, it's on the side of the case, which is typically sandwiched between your monitor and your subwoofer :P

  I have to admit, I like the look and think it looks pretty slick. BUT it's one of those things that you'll get tired of really quick. Almost like a mistake you make when you're drunk; once reality hits (or you sober up) you think "What the F@#$ was I thinking."
  
  However, if they went for something mild like a Green Lantern laptop I'd probably go for it if it wasn't too expensive. Keep the standard black, with some green trims, and the suit

  Its the classic Alienware strategy: getting geeks to pay absurd amounts of money for case mods, style, and geek street cred. Nothing inside the box is all that special, nor does it need to be. They're not selling whats in the box any more than Lexus sells whats in the engine housing.

    Lexus was a fairly inappropriate choice for that comparison, as they are one of the most reliable brands of car out there, and that certainly has something to do with why people who are in the luxury car market would choose them over Jaguar etc. etc.
    
    A more apt comparison might be Rolls Royce, which sell largely on brand name, prettiness (in the eye of the beholder), and 'street cred' in much the same way alienware products do.

    Some of us were more afraid that the Alienware stupidity would infect Dell (which isn't a 'great' company, but at least is well-grounded in reality.)
