Journal TechnoLust's Journal: Today, and Meeting Bethanie 46
I called Bethanie when I arrived and they were already inside. As I walked in, I was wondering how to greet her. I was considering hugging her, but I didn't know how Hubby would take that. But, as luck would have it, I didn't have to make that decision. When I walked in and saw them, I said hello, and before I knew it, Bethanie said, "I'm a hugger." and embraced me. Ok, so I hugged back. Then I met Hubby (turns out that isn't his real name) and her 2.5+ year old daughter. Bethanie was pretty much how I pictured her, except she had glasses. I don't wear glasses or contacts, so I always assume other poeple don't. The little girl was a cute as a button, she looked just like Bethanie, except her hair was darker and curly, which probably came from Hubby's genes. Em didn't make it, because of course, he sucks.
Apparently this was both Bethanie's and my first time meeting someone from slashdot, although we've both met people from the internet before. We talked about who we talked to offline, and we talked about what a great guy gmhowell is beneath the "grumpy guy" facade. We talked about our families and where we grew up, and how she met Hubby. Kiddo was well behaved, but she freaked out when they set the oil of fire and it flamed up. Bethanie had to hold her and talk to her and calm her down. But after that, she liked watching the cook do everything. We talked about more slashdot people. I said my next trip would probably be to Cinci, to meet FK and glh. I doubt that one will be a day trip, though. Hubby and I talked techie stuff whenever B took Kiddo to the potty, and he was good guy. Very easy to get along with, expecially since we didn't know each other at all. We talked about my psyco ex girl friend, since Bethanie hadn't read that far back.
As for the food, the chef put on a great show, and the food was really good. The sushi was mediocre at best. The spider roll (soft shell crab) was ok, but the uni (sea urchin) was not good. It tasted old, I guess, or maybe had been frozen for a while or something. The only place any where near here that has uni is a place called Tomo in Knoxville, and there is a guy from Hawaii that owns a farm in Hawaii, and he flies them in fresh from his farm for this sushi place. So they are expensive, but very good.
Bethanie was in real life, exaclty like she is online, only SLIGTLY less vocal with the double entendres. We talked about a lot of things and just came to know each other better in general. I really enjoyed it, and if anyone else has the chance to meet Bethanie, I can definitely recommend it. She is not crazy, and she is not holding a gun to my head to make me write... Oww... and she didn't just hit me for mentioning... oww.

Yay me.
I'm out $160, but I figured that the last machine I built should have a unique CD-key OS installed as opposed to a carry over from my previous system that was scrapped for parts.
As for the pirate . . . well I'm not using Office 2k or adobe any more so I'm legal again!

On an unrelated note, 1 thing that I've always loved about the US, is that when you write novels & stories, they seem take place in places that actually are in the US [Seattle, LA, Las Vegas, Boston, New York, etc.]. In Canada, they take place in various areas including Vancouver, but they usually seem to take place in Toronto, or actual places in the US. It's not the end of the world, but still.
