Submission + - Magnetic Field of Earth Weakening a Sign Poles Are Flipping (guardianlv.com)

Trachman writes: The magnetic field of Earth is weakening more rapidly than many scientists thought it would, a sign that Earth’s magnetic poles might flip within a few hundred years as opposed to thousands of years. Data collected from Swarm, the collective name for three European Space Agency (ESA) satellites, confirms that Earth’s magnetic field is weakening, something which has led to many past switches in Earth’s magnetic poles.Deep ocean core studies have confirmed, according to NASA, that the Earth’s magnetic poles reverse on a relatively frequent basis. They usually switch anywhere from 200,000 to 300,000 years. As it has been 700,000 years or so since a flip has taken place, Earth is overdue for one. The weakening magnetic field might be a sign that the switch will occur sooner, rather than later. Scientists, according to a report by LiveScience, had thought that Earth’s magnetic field was weakening by about five percent every hundred years. At that rate, they calculated that a flip in the Earth’s magnetic fields would not happen for around another 2,000 years. However, the new data from Swarm indicates that Earth’s magnetic field is actually currently weakening at a rate of five percent every decade instead of century. That rate is 10 times faster than the scientists had allowed for in their calculations about when the next flip would happen. That being said, we know that the Earth's magnetic field is primary protecting shield from cosmic particles and, consequently, is a primary factor to the Earth's temperature.

My Scoop is following: At the risk of being not popular here at Slashdot I dare to ask: can magnetic field changes and climate changes be connected and analyzed in concert?

Read the Gospel;

Which one? The ones that the Council of Nicea approved? Or the older ones or the ones Luther approved?

See that's the problem with religion: It's made by men and yet is supposed to be above the review of men.

Can anybody tell me why the first query works and the second one doesn't?

Actually that 80 hour a week guy will quit without notice really fucking the company.

Hell I took my vacation time left and called in sick for the last days I had in my sick bank while I worked at my new job.. the day I was supposed to be back at my old job I walked in at 8 am dropped my badge and keys on my bosses desk and said, "I quit, hope you can hire the 3 guys you will need to replace me quickly." I had informed HR that I was quitting in writing that morning at 7am when they got there.

It screwed them over hard, really hard. I got a call from the VP begging for me to come back with a 30% pay increase 2 hours after I walked out the door. I said he doesn't have enough money in the world for me to work there anymore, I wished them luck replacing me.

Funny thing, 6 months later the 2008 crash happened and they closed up for good.

Just having a proper IT infrastructure works even better.

Patch and reboot secondary server at 11am. everything checks out, put it online and promote it to primary. All done. Now migrate the changes to the backup, Pack up the laptop and head home at 5pm... not a problem. Our SQL setup has 3 servers we upgrade one and promote it, the upgrade #2 #3 stays at the previous revisions until 5 days have passed so we have a rollback. Yes data is synced across all three, worst case if TWO servers were to explode, we will lose 15 minutes of data entry.

I NEVER do late at night or weekend maintenance anymore. Servers are dirt fricking cheap to not have redundants always running and ready to drop in.

Typo -- above should read: Martin Luther removed them from his Bible, and also wanted to remove a few other books as well --- James, for example.

So, you've proven my point. The Journal of Vibration and Control caught some improperly refereed articles and retracted them within four years. A system that works.

It took a millennium and a half for the reformation to try to straighten out Scripture. Except, with the Journal, it's an open process that is open for the involvement of the scientific community. With the Bible, it's a handful of people making changes because God told them to.

Science is a self-correcting system that has worked very well since before the first words of the Pentatuch were laid down by a handful of people pulling it out of their ass.

So which would you use to inform your life and society? If you said, "The Bible", then even God thinks you're a moron. Because, way before there was scripture, there was man's ability to reason.
