Comment Re:Plus RS232 (Score 0) 301

I just bought the USB-Serial adapter. Native serial ports on laptops are gone and they're not coming back. I know most of those adapters are total crap (so many fail when transferring block data at even just 57600), but chipset manufacturers don't even include serial port lines on the southbridge anymore.

3 ports means I can plug in a Keyboard, Mouse, and have one port for a USB Thumb Drive, Serial Adapter, Ethernet Adapter, DRM Dongle for whatever I'm actually doing with the laptop. If USB keyboards reliably came with USB hubs built in I could reduce that count, but you can never be sure what the site will have when you get there. Most USB keyboards aren't well equipped. In a pinch you can obviously use the keyboard on the laptop itself, but it's not as comfortable and most places have random USB keyboards sitting around.

Unless you are ok with that app not working at times.

Web based is 105% crap when connectivity is flakey.

If you are making "free" apps, go for it, but if you are charging a customer $29.95 for the app, it had damn well better be a native app that works even with all radios turned off.

And I have a couple of $29.95 apps. Hell I have one for room audio tuning that was $59.95

One could argue that the Islamic world went through an reverse of the Enlightenment. An unenlightenment if you will. People like to blame the British for screwing everything up (they certainly did not help), but really they were exploiting the repressive and regressive systems held in place by petty tribalism that long predated their appearance.

This is going to be a continuing problem until they figure out how to get some separation between church and state. This separation will be difficult to achieve so long as assassination of potential political rivals remains commonplace. The christian world had the advantage of making the separation back when a King could be reasonably protected against assassination by simply living in a castle and keeping a close eye on his advisers and family. Today with high power sniper rifles and small but powerful bombs available to any random stranger it is much harder to avoid being assassinated.
