These people are sick in the head.

The problem of airplane terrorism was solved over a field in Shanksville PA ninety minutes after a plane hit the North Tower.

We'll have to take back the Fourth Amendment if we want it - it won't be returned.

I have a friend who had that happen several times. Although she is quite straight and cis, she has a shaved head, and security guards have gotten mad at her for going to the "wrong" bathroom.

but worrying about men in a women's restroom just sounds like people are looking for a reason to "other" people and using that as an excuse.

Sometimes you can see through the cracks in the stalls, and that really worries some people.

It sounds like they're lazily destroying their value proposition but Subjective Value Theory says that set point will be different than everybody else.

It's still stupid of them to remove features for paying customers. Probably they are losing devs or hiring unqualified people for non-merit reasons. Their shareholders should be pissed.

FWIW when I was a teen I probably spent $100 a months (in 2024 dollars) on music so I can see why so many people subscribe.

I still own my CD's but only ever listen to the mp3 rips.

AI is a broad field that encompasses a lot of things that you probably don't think of as AI such as linear regression, clustering, and decision trees. I understand this annoys some people, but I can assure you that this isn't anything new. This is what AI was always about.

You are describing "weak AI" and it's not what AI was always about.

When people say "AI" by itself, they typically mean "strong AI," but not always.

I like the convenience of batteries. Just good ones, for example, lithium primary cells like what they put in 10 year smoke alarms contain more energy than alkaline, last like 5 times as long in "standby" role, won't crud up the battery compartment by leaking, they're much lighter, etc...

Don't like the cost, but oh well.

There are a bunch of startups in the last 5 years or so who are trying to collect data in hospitals to prevent deaths. It's not an advertising model (yet) because hospitals are willing to pay.

One of the easiest methods of preventing death is by catching sepsis early, when it's still treatable, and a number of startups have been able to achieve death reductions in pilot tests. Of course, this means that nurses need to spend more time entering data, which is annoying.

This is not AI, it's just data science, but they call it AI because "hype." Funding is easier, getting clients is easier, etc.

I had some problem with a gitlab-ce install some months back where an update failed to install and then new updates filled the disk with the apt cache on it.

I used their docs to clear the problem and get current but there was nothing inherently wrong, just an upgrade error.

This may have preceded the security patch; if it's a common problem people who thought they were OK with automatic updates might be in for quite a surprise.

I am glad gitlab exists but goodness it's up to about 20GB for a half dozen very small text-only repos.

The is nothing less 'portable' than something with pile of external dongles, adapters, etc hung off it just to make it useful.

USB-C or a conventional proprietary connector type-y docking station or port-replicator works for the desk but it does not travel. Nobody wants to walk into the conference room of the coffee shop and assemble and squid like array of thunderbolt gadgets, only to tear it all down (and probably have to close or restart half the apps using the stuff) 15min later.
