Journal Journal: One year since XP OEL. 6

Do you realize that XP was EOLed exactly one year ago?
I know many XP machines still chugging around peacefully without problems: No XPcalypse happened. This entirely fits my predictions.

XP was a (had become) a mature operating system. I abhor the fetish of "newer is better" that reigns in our industry.

Journal Journal: Found at a Catholic site 39

The legal impossibility of a Christian polity in America is formally declared in the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The so-called 'free speech' and 'free exercise' clauses of the First Amendment are purely secular mandates. They are a rejection of the Catholic notion of the common good, mandating that there be no restraint whatsoever on things that damage souls and ultimately destroy the State itself. They grant as lawful precisely what many popes have called unlawful: unconditional freedom of thought, of speech, of writing, and of worship -- as if these were so many rights given by nature to man. The language of the First Amendment reflects the Protestant-borne, Enlightenment-bred faith of the deistic Framers in the ability of unaided human reason to define and sustain liberty apart from Trinitarian Truth; that is, without a cooperative effort by the Church and the State. Thus, all manner of violations of natural and divine law, including the "right" to murder children in the womb, and the coming "right" to "marry" someone of the same sex, are found lurking in the secular mandates of the First Amendment. The true Church foresees these errors. Oddly enough, the Secular State itself will not be able to endure its own mandates.

"Næste"? Anyway, it goes something like that. However, the bourgeois 'christian' that dominates the moniker today preaches exactly the opposite. They only follow the millennial trend with their golden calf. Abundance has its issues amongst humans. They manage it poorly. Old instincts die hard.

Journal Journal: Ontario preparing ban on gay and trans "conversion therapy" for children.

The practice of promising parents that they can "straighten out" their gay or lesbian kids has been under fire around the world, with no evidence of long-term success, and lots of suicides. Exerpt from the APA:

Is It Possible To Change Oneâ(TM)s Sexual Orientation (âoeReparative Therapyâ)?

There is no published scientific evidence supporting the efficacy of âoereparative therapyâ as a treatment to change oneâ(TM)s sexual orientation, nor is it included in the APAâ(TM)s Task Force Report, Treatments of Psychiatric Disorders. More importantly, altering sexual orientation is not an appropriate goal of psychiatric treatment. Some may seek conversion to heterosexuality because of the difficulties that they encounter as a member of a stigmatized group. Clinical experience indicates that those who have integrated their sexual orientation into a positive sense of self-function at a healthier psychological level than those who have not. âoeGay affirmative psychotherapyâ may be helpful in the coming out process, fostering a positive psychological development and overcoming the effects of stigmatization. A position statement adopted by the Board in December 1998 said:

"The American Psychiatric Association opposes any psychiatric treatment, such as âoereparativeâ or âoeconversionâ therapy, which is based upon the assumption that homosexuality per se is a mental disorder, or based upon a prior assumption that the patient should change his/ her homosexual orientation.â

And yet, it's still practiced. Now Ontario is preparing to ban "conversion therapy" for children.

A bill that would ban therapy to 'convert' gay and transgender children and youth got support from MPPs of all political stripes in the Ontario legislature on Thursday.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or questioning (LGBTQ) children and youth shouldnâ(TM)t be told it would be better if they were âoestraight,â she said.

DiNovo dedicated her bill to American transgender teen Leelah Alcorn, who committed suicide on Dec. 28 after undergoing conversion therapy.

Hopefully this "outbreak of common sense" will spread. Attempting conversion therapy on kids is child abuse.

Journal Journal: Michelle Bachman Compares Obama to Andreas Lubitz 65

Former presidential hopeful Michelle Bachman recently compared President Obama to Germanwings copilot Andreas Lubitz:

"With his Iran deal, Barack Obama is for the 300 million souls of the United States what Andreas Lubitz was for the 150 souls on the German Wings (sic) flight - a deranged pilot flying his entire nation into the rocks. After the fact, among the smoldering remains of American cities, the shocked survivors will ask, why did he do it?"

No, this is not an April Fool's joke. She really is that far disconnected from reality.

He reminded Republicans that some of the ideas behind the Affordable Care Act--most notably its individual mandate to buy coverage--were once supported by some conservatives, although its Medicaid expansion and some other big parts of the law stem more from liberal thought.
"The Affordable Care Act pretty much was their plan before I adopted it," he said.

It sounds as though he's snorting the same Drano as some I could name here.
Yeah, one time some Heritage dudes said something semi-fungible, so I guess that lets the No-Talent Rodeo Clown off the hook for what's among the more expensive cock-ups in human history. Or something.
A cleaner non-argument would be that Republicans use the Roman alphabet, and all five reams of the PooPoo-cACA itself* were composed in the Roman alphabet**.
The broader point is that this country is an experiment in self-government, and the time has arrived to admit that Hayek is correct, and the Progressive Project (both Republican and Democrat flavors) just needs to be scuttled in favor of simpler systems empowering individuals in their liberty. You either support that, or I oppose you.

*To say nothing of the ensuing reams of regulation--would that they were reduced to nothing!
**For all it could have as well been a simple Klingon translation, for all anyone who cast a vote to hang this albatross about our necks actually read the Mike Foxtrot.
