He reminded Republicans that some of the ideas behind the Affordable Care Act--most notably its individual mandate to buy coverage--were once supported by some conservatives, although its Medicaid expansion and some other big parts of the law stem more from liberal thought.
"The Affordable Care Act pretty much was their plan before I adopted it," he said.

It sounds as though he's snorting the same Drano as some I could name here.
Yeah, one time some Heritage dudes said something semi-fungible, so I guess that lets the No-Talent Rodeo Clown off the hook for what's among the more expensive cock-ups in human history. Or something.
A cleaner non-argument would be that Republicans use the Roman alphabet, and all five reams of the PooPoo-cACA itself* were composed in the Roman alphabet**.
The broader point is that this country is an experiment in self-government, and the time has arrived to admit that Hayek is correct, and the Progressive Project (both Republican and Democrat flavors) just needs to be scuttled in favor of simpler systems empowering individuals in their liberty. You either support that, or I oppose you.

*To say nothing of the ensuing reams of regulation--would that they were reduced to nothing!
**For all it could have as well been a simple Klingon translation, for all anyone who cast a vote to hang this albatross about our necks actually read the Mike Foxtrot.

  • I counted at least three silly conspiracies that you stuffed in there. Can't you bring it home for us and tie it in to Benghazi or President Lawnchair's birth certificate?

    Granted, your newest one in here - that facts themselves are just democrat conspiracies - is quite a doozy - but I know you have more up your sleeve yet. Come on, tell us how this speech was itself an impeachable offense!

  • Was astounding. Especially since I heard at least three better plans- community sponsored healthcare (in which LOCAL taxes fund LOCAL facilities with LOCAL doctors, managed like schools used to be with a local hospital board), subscription based healthcare (in which the rich pay more to fund clinics for the poor, but everybody pays what healthcare really costs, not job based but rather what it costs to have doctors on duty in clinics and hospitals, whether you are sick or not), and finally, free market hea

    • Remember, no Republicans voted for it, and there was trouble wrangling enough Democrats to go along with it. Obviously for-profit/private-sector insurers is nowhere near the desired end-goal of the Left, but the idea was(/is) so unpopular that it magnified the influence of major lobbying groups (when it's down to a handful of votes).

        • As a (Googling) service to anyone else reading this, what smitty's references are getting at is that the CEO's and board members are on a binge to enrich themselves during this time of artificially-induced plenty, because they'll have moved on by the time the government begins to force their organizations out of the market.

            Maybe. Capitalism is an abstract economic system. As such, it's no more evil than, say, Marxism.
            Individuals have committed all manner of sin under every possible economic system.
            However, Capitalism seems to have done a better job of minimizing misery than pretty much anything else tried.

      I was referring to the ACA, AKA Obamacare, but RG pointed out that what was a prior attempt at a national health care bill did manage to get one Republican vote. But whether you want to look at the one lone jackhole case or the bupkis case, if the insurance industry includes the Republicans as part of their cronies as you say, the GOP sure wasn't a very good crony on this issue.
