Someone's hunch finally paid off. According to this BBC article from last year, the number of pedestrians in the U.K. is half that of the U.S.

However, the reason to not jaywalk is simply because the vast majority of people take the longest possible route to cross the street (i.e. diagonal) rather than straight across which exposes you to more traffic and thus a greater chance of being hit.

Most here are science types, and realize there is only one thing that can be done with it. Burn it up.

That'd be fine, but we're not talking about doing that in this country yet. That's the only kind of nuclear power I would promote. Show me an effort to fix that in the USA and I'll get behind it. Also, there is still some waste left over from that. I'm going to have to see some evidence that we'll handle that responsibly. So far, nope.

Oh yes... I think these were the same people who said, "we will put catalytic converters on cars. it will cost more, but they will convert the noxious fumes into harmless water and carbon dioxide."

Yes. They add a couple of hundred dollars to the price of the average car and they make the world a better place; unburned hydrocarbons are the most foul emission which automobiles make. You might also be interested in knowing that we averted the ozone depletion crisis by banning CFCs. Meanwhile, the O2 sensor that came along with those catalysts actually lets you make more power while burning less fuel.

Like I've said before, I was brought up to respect the rules. We seem to be entering into a "I want what I want and I don't care about the later consequences" kind of society, and that's not a world I want for my kids. To have a choice of a job at McDonalds, WalMart, or Uber is not what I want for my kids. The last taxi driver I had a conversation with was leasing his cab, and he had a plan to own it one day. I was going to take him 5-10 years but he was working towards something. Those are the types of people I feel should be rewarded.

The law of demand is not a real legal law right? In that it doesn't actually give businesses the right to ignore real laws in search of some 'pure' law of supply and demand. Almost all produce markets are regulated, drug markets are regulated, the service industry is regulated. The regulation is in because of good ideas and are supported by real laws. Fight the law, but don't take advantage of everyone else following it before you do.
