Or someone will figure they can tromp the pedal ALL the time because the car will take care of it... then when they get to a higher speed zone, the car will speed up inappropriately and run someone else off the road, or slide off the road because 45mph was okay on ice but 65mph is not. Or it will slow when doing so is dangerous (frex, when that truck behind you can't slow down that fast), but the sign said to. Situational awareness is not just the speed limit. It's a continuous series of judgment calls based on the whole damn road and everyone on it.

There are roads in California where the speed limit is different on opposite sides of the street, I shit you not. So on the same street, westbound the speed limit might be 40mph while eastbound it's 25mph. When I asked the highway department about this, I was told it's due to the street being on the boundary of different 'zones'.

To be honest, I just don't know if most apps are worth paying for.

I recently switched to Android and wanted to make an app, mostly for fun. But I wasn't sure what I wanted to make. I can't think of any needs I have from my phone that I don't already have met, and I don't want to make a game. I browsed through the Play store looking for inspiration. Maybe I'd see something that would spark an idea, or would make me think "it would be fun to develop a free version of that."

Nothing. I scrolled through hundreds of apps. Didn't find a single one I'd want to use, let alone develop.

Perhaps I'm just unimaginative, and I'm the the patent clerk who quit because "everything good's been invented." But I didn't see a thing I wanted.

Also doesn't help that 50% of the apps are "social," which translates to "we'll rape all your personal information and sell it for malicious purposes."

Google and FaceBook give you "free" services but take it out of your ass. So yes, you're whoring yourself out to them for cheap.

But with Uber you're still paying for the service. They're not going to start giving you free rides in exchange for mining your data. So you're still getting fucked, but you're paying them for the privilege. That's not a john, either. The john pays for it, but he wants the fuckening.

Is there a word for that even? Where you pay somebody and they unwelcomingly shag you? Only thing I can think of is "taxpayer."

The problem is that SPOT is a diet-version of Israel's behavioral screening program, which is what makes it a waste of money.

SPOT leaves out the naked profiling that Israel uses and it also completely neglects the intrusive (and lengthy) questioning of travelers.
Basically, the two pieces that make it at all effective.

To summarize, the Israeli system could never be fully transplanted into the USA because
1. It profiles based on race, religion, and country of origin
2. It is manpower intensive
3. It puts security before anything, including your family of 5 missing their flight.
