Well maybe he was like I was when I voted for GW in the first presidential election I could vote in. I was young and dumb and still in college and still believed the lie that if you vote 3rd party is is just a vote of the other guy. I did however believe that Bush was a better choice than Gore (keep in mind this is before the War on Terror) and it looked like the biggest issue was going to be economic. I Obama does seem to have one thing that Bush lacked which is a cult of personality.

Obama Asks Congress To Renew 'Patriot Act' Snooping 389

mi writes: President Obama has asked the Senate to renew key Patriot Act provisions before their expiration on May 31. This includes surveillance powers that let the government collect Americans' phone records. Obama said, "It's necessary to keep the American people safe and secure." The call came despite recent revelations that the FBI is unable to name a single terror case in which the snooping provisions were of much help. "Obama noted that the controversial bulk phone collections program, which was exposed by National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden, is reformed in the House bill, which does away with it over six months and instead gives phone companies the responsibility of maintaining phone records that the government can search." Obama criticized the Senate for not acting on that legislation, saying they have necessitated a renewal of the Patriot Act provisions.

So you are saying that you got a shitty job with what works out to bad pay. Big deal you got paid $200,000 but depending on how one parses your sentence you either worked something around 4200 hours or 8400 hours to acquire that. So in a best case you were getting something around $50/hr or $25/hr in a worse case and apart from a pile of money you got to basically work, shit, and sleep for 2 years. If it was the latter amount then I did better than you on a per hour basis (go go double time, shift differentials, and the scholarship program they offered) when I worked at a gas station almost 20 years ago when I would pull similar shitty hours to get enough money over the summer to pay for college.

Having lived in Paris for a while it was always humorous to see someone with a huge ass Mercedes S class or BMW 7 series park it, especially if there was a smart car in front or behind them. I saw a number of smarts get pushed up onto the curb or into the vehicle in front or behind them.

Not really. Try getting a nice crust that only browns the meat a couple of millimeters in with the rest of the roast being that beautiful medium rare red throughout. While a pressure cooker can cook faster by using higher heat than I had the oven set to (190F) and steam, it may not provide the results one wants. A pot roast on the other hand can go right into the pressure cooker and it will turn out fine.

A Text Message Can Crash An iPhone and Force It To Reboot 248

DavidGilbert99 writes with news that a bug in iOS has made it so anyone can crash an iPhone by simply sending it a text message containing certain characters. "When the text message is displayed by a banner alert or notification on the lockscreen, the system attempts to abbreviate the text with an ellipsis. If the ellipsis is placed in the middle of a set of non-Latin script characters, including Arabic, Marathi and Chinese, it causes the system to crash and the phone to reboot." The text string is specific enough that it's unlikely to happen by accident, and users can disable text notification banners to protect themselves from being affected. However, if a user receives the crash-inducing text, they won't be able to access the Messages app without causing another crash. A similar bug crashed applications in OS X a few years ago.

A pressure cooker can be used to tenderize meat, as well as being able to cook things quickly. I can even slow roast things in the oven and they become tender, like the arm roast I cooked yesterday. It came out a perfect medium rare and was almost as tender as a nice prime rib but took 7 hours to cook.
