Journal nizo's Journal: I think it has crack in it 22

I just tried Nissin Chow Mein Ramen (teriyaki beef flavor) and thought it was rather tasty, especially for a ramen noodle like product. I have always liked the chicken flavor as well. Granted I probably wouldn't want to eat more than one of these a month due to fat and sodium levels, but they work great as an emergency lunch. So what do you have stashed away for the days when you forgot to bring your lunch?

A China May take out menu. "free deliver" (sic)
  • It's right across the street, they serve hamburgers and breakfast from 7 am to 4 pm every day, and keep refilling your coffee cup until you force them to stop (only $1.50 for the coffee).

If that fails, I can always walk three blocks and eat at Essential Breads and flirt with the sexy servers there.

That's what I've got stashed. I only have teabags and a fast hot water boiler at work.
  • I've got cans of tuna, rice that I can prepare in a microwave and chili sauce hidden away in my office.

It's reserved for those days when the canteens at the university are packed full of students and I don't feel like queuing for my lunch.

I ate all the contents of my "hunger drawer" at work before I went on my month of parental leave but there's a yummy type of Korean noodle in a bowl that I die for. Also keep some instant oatmeal and brown sugar around. Mmm...
    • Wow you really are me, only older :-)

I have some oatmeal too, though usually I am so rushed in the morning I don't have time to make it and I end up just eating lunch early. Though oatmeal is great for that nice full "glob o' stuff in your stomach" feeling.

If you remember, lemme know the name and I will see if I can find it here (I am always looking for new types of yummy noodles).

Heh, shall do. There's another Korean brand in a red package that is quite hot. Will re-stock the ol' food-drawer and let you know.
        • Ohhhh I think I know which one the hot ones are; they are kimchi flavored. The ones I eat I save for when I am congested. They basically not only clear my sinuses, but usually they make me cough up a few layers of my throat/sinuses too. here is a picture [asianfoodgrocer.com] of the ones I usually get (vegetal brand, whatever that means).
          • Same brand as the ones I really like different flavour though I think. The hot ones are in a foil package not a bowl. They burn
  • It's a great carrier for Hot Sauce. Does it serve another purpose, too?
  • For Breakfast:

    • One small box of Fruit Loops
    • Two bags of instant oatmeal

    For Lunch:

    • A can of soup
    • A can of Spaghettios

I learned after 9/11 -- better have something handy in case everything goes to sh*t or you are too brain-dead to make/bring your lunch.

  • Fried chicken and a salad.

Either that or I get another glass of water and go hungry.
  • Hop in the car, go to the nearest grocery store called SunFresh (lovingly called NotSoFresh), pick up a salad, a hotpocket, or a panini, avoid the *flaming* cashier who keeps smiling menacingly at me, try to avoid hitting other cars on the way back to the office (not always successful [ohrberg.org], but at least it wasn't my fault), and then just...chow down on whatever you managed to bring back.
  • If I stash food away, I'll eat it sometime when I'm not thinking, i.e., when I'm working :)
So it's good old Combo #5, no wasabi or ginger.
  • MRE's, a gallon of water, and a Coleman's stove (in my vehicle) if'n it's a real emergency.
  • The courthouse has a mexican restaurant in it - excellent chile verde burrito. Unfortunately, they don't take plastic, so I have to remember to have cash in my wallet - or they will let me set up a tab. I don't like that idea - I could see myself forgetting that I owed them money, and three weeks later walking in and feeling embarrassed.

Two is not equal to three, even for large values of two.
