Something I've seen in a lot of liberal 'mericans is the belief that the European/Scandinavian system is inherently better. That somehow just because you have welfare, healthcare, and social services, life is better all around. They tend to ignore the massive overhead of the system and the incredible waste. We don't ignore it- we just think that human equality under the law and under economics is a value worth the cost. Anybody who ignores the cost, who thinks that EVERYBODY could live like the richest 1% in the United States do, is just lying to themselves.

You see, by wasting money on adult daycare programs, we have less money for those who truly need it. There are a lot of people who could work who are just paid to sit on their ass in order to stay out of the unemployment statitics. The point of welfare is not to provide entertainment to spoiled able bodied adults.

It's unfortunate that the libertarians are normally so closely associated with the republicans, the libertarians share a lot of things with the liberals as well, but that tends to get overlooked.
Fundamentally, I'm libertarian. People should be left the hell alone to do their thing. You don't have a right to a lot of things. You don't have a right to universal healthcare, welfare, foodstamps, unemployment, higher education etc etc.

I'd vote Libertarian, and have voted for Libertarians, but right now I think that the party platform of isolationism as foreign policy is short sighted.

I'm also pleased to see you think McCain is a better choice as well, mainly because I like it when people agree with me.
Also, because I feel based on his record and his life, that he's the best man to run this country.
I really really hope he runs in the next election. It may be enough to get me out in the streets begging for votes.

I sometimes vote character.
I never vote by party and i rarely vote by debate prowess.
I like hot chocolate, shiny rocks, and good doctors, and vote for whatever i think will give people the most of the first two and as much as they need of the latter.
Which is to say, i'm useless as a party bloc, leverageless as a random constituent, and perennially displeased with our progress in any direction.
