Journal CleverNickName's Journal: Woo-hoo!! My books are here!! 14

Yes!!

This morning, UPS arrived with a shipment of 366 copies of Dancing Barefoot from my printer! I nearly cried when I opened the first box, and saw "By Wil Wheaton" right on the cover.

My wife took pictures, which I'm debating putting up, because I have major bed head. :-)

I feel so good, and so excited about this. I started packing orders right away, and we completed 100 before I had to leave for a meeting.

My meeting was for a TV show pilot that seems REALLY cool. The meeting went very well, and I'm excited as hell to work with them. I hope it all works out.

And here's the crazy thing: the producers, who are very professional and CLEARLY know what they're doing, contacted me because of my website.

Okay, I have to go to the post office now. *hop*

Well, congratulations. Publishing means that you have done something that contributes to society and culture (not that you have not already), but to have it in print is somehow soul satisfying.

Best of luck on the new projects and on your book sales.

What they don't read your /. journal? How professional can they be?

Put em up, we want to see. I'm a geek, so I'm not checking out your galleries for fashion tips or cause I think you're hot (Your wife is beautiful* though... a slap in the face of all those "/. nerds don't get women" posters...). I just like vicariously sharing in your joy of being published.

*Disclaimer: My wife is still more beautiful than your wife, though I don't have the pictures up to prove it... :)
  • bn.com starts shipping the book [bfast.com] on the 28th (yes, that's an affiliate link -- here's a direct link [barnesandnoble.com] if you think B&N needs the money more than I do :-). I find the list of "people who bought this book also bought..." especially interesting. You have an eclectic bunch of fans there Wil (Horror to historical fiction.
  • I want to check out your book, but I'm unemployed and barely making ends meet. So how about you give me a copy of your book NOW, and I can pay you for it later.

    I think that sounds fair!

Actually, send me 2 books, one normal, one autographed. Make the second, autographed one, a gift from you to me. Then, I'll sell this book on ebay, and use the proceeds to pay for th original copy of the book, like I promised!

No? Oh... Well, worth a shot anyway heh

Be interesting to hear more about this as soon as things become more offical and there is some sort of announcement. (Hopefully)

Congradulations on the book. While I've never been published I can imagine the thrill
  • I had a poem published in a book of poetry some years ago. What absolutely blows my mind is that, on some distant day, a teenager is going to be going through a library. That teenager is going to find my poem and read it. Years and years from now, your published words are going to be read and considered. English students might not be required to read it every year, but your book will be read and appreciated. And that's really something.

Congratulations, Wil - I can't wait for my copy.
  • meeting was for a TV show pilot

Was that the I, Robot show you mentioned earlier? If not, what ever happened with that?

  • The UPS man can deliver magic things...I cannot wait for this exact same experience...and bedhead is in style now anyway...put the pics up.
  • I went to my local BN store, and Yes, I was going to buy the book. They did not have the book. I even had the employee see if it was available in the warehouse, but it was not available in the warehouse to ship. Is there any plans on getting the book into local book stores as well?
