Submission + - Facebook sent doctor on secret mission to ask hospitals to share patient data (cnbc.com)

NichardRixon writes: According to a story by Christina Farr on the CNBC website,
" Facebook was in talks with top hospitals and other medical groups as recently as last month about a proposal to share data about the social networks of their most vulnerable patients.
" The idea was to build profiles of people that included their medical conditions, information that health systems have, as well as social and economic factors gleaned from Facebook.
" Facebook said the project is on hiatus so it can focus on "other important work, including doing a better job of protecting people's data."

Submission + - DHS Seeks to Create Database of Journalists and Their "Sentiment" (biglawbusiness.com)

RyoShin writes: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is seeking a contractor (archived link) to create a database to monitor and catalog publications, journalists, and bloggers that give coverage about the DHS or "a particular event". Part of the data to be collected is the publication's "sentiment". From Big Law Business (a Bloomberg outlet):

The DHS request says the selected vendor will set up an online “media influence database” giving users the ability to browse based on location, beat, and type of influence. For each influencer found, “present contact details and any other information that could be relevant, including publications this influencer writes for, and an overview of the previous coverage published by the media influencer.”

Yup, Panopticon is a good read, but I was speaking specifically of the patent applications for background "listening" to build better profiles, as a service to the "consumer" of course...
Note: "Consumer is not the person being listened to, it's the people that utilize the data collected from the aforementioned person.

You know you can still see them even if you allow them to run, right?
But when I look at it, once you give temp permissions it reloads with even more scripts that I then had to allow.
In addition to the above list, that added:
a3cloud.net
acuityplatform.com
bidswitch.net
d29usylhdk1xyu.cloudfront.net
d6uon097akywu.cloudfront.net
demdex.net
districtm.io
dotomi.com
doubleclick.net
google.com
janrain.xyz
linkedin.com
scorecardresearch.com
sitescout.com
trustarc.com
Now I have to kill all the temp permissions and just leave the ones I must allow in order to use /.
