    Zoom Review

    Date: Mar 31 2020

Summary: Definitely a good product for most video conference needs. Only downside would be if you needed perfect sound quality.

Positive: Affordable compared to other video conferencing services. Simple interface and simple to join a meeting.

Negative: Sound quality is not the greatest especially if it is not perfectly silent in the room that the speaker is talking in.

    Essential But Expensive!

    Date: Nov 11 2023

Summary: Overall, Zoom fulfils all the requirement and checks all boxes for a good video conferencing application but with a big dent on the wallet. If they improve their pricing it is hands down the best meeting application.

Positive: - The user interface is quite good and easy to get started for someone who hasn't used any video conferencing tool.
    - It provides free meeting upto 40 minutes.
    - It has Smooth user interface across all platforms.
    - It has better third party integration than any other meeting or video conferencing application.

Negative: - The subscription cost is quite high especially if you are an individual or a freelancer.
    - There is no way to but only one license, it comes as a bundle of minimum 10 licenses, which is not needed for individual or freelancer, because, 1 license allow upto 100 participants which more than enough for a freelancer or small organisation. So, all in all the subscription model is better suited for medium to large organisations and there is not subscription model available which focuses on small organisations.
    - The blur background does not work well with average webcams, not everyone has a dedicated camera for video meetings.

Zoom is capable of handling big meetings

    Date: Sep 29 2022

Summary: I feel like even though Zoom presents its big connectivity issue, it remains a software that is capable of handling meetings that are bigger than usual and it allows me to manage them easily when we are holding meetings with a great amount of people, allowing me to turn off microphones for everyone, turning on the hand gesture to know if anyone wants to say anything without interrupting the main discussion, and more. It has allowed me to share all information with team members and hold many meetings where I can communicate and deliver key information to our business successfully, but it has also helped me communicate with clients remotely when holding an in-person meeting is not possible, and helped me communicate with them and guide them through all the aspects of our insurance plans and close deals with them efficiently.

Positive: Zoom is a competent software that carries out all important meetings no matter the length of the meeting. I like that it can schedule all meetings in advance and it will add into everyone’s calendar and automatically set a reminder and ask for attendance, it is very easy to host a meeting and to manage all the members that enter a meeting, it has many functions such as turning off and on chats, creating a breakout room for meetings and having total control over a meeting to ensure that it goes very well, Zoom has the ability to share screen and it is amazing that it works so well and provides good video quality for everyone to see what is being shown in the screen, it helps deliver the information correctly. Also, Zoom has a great variety of interactive tools that one can use during a meeting, for example, the creation of boards in the meeting that the host can use to write and highlight certain information, and these tools usually help discuss anything during all important meetings between team members, it is a great function that Zoom has that help enhance the delivery of information and support the way in which something is talked about to make it more intuitive and understanding for everyone.

Negative: Zoom provides high quality video and audio for everyone, however, it requires a great amount of bandwidth for it to run smoothly for everyone, without lagging and without the audio being delayed. This has caused issues within our meetings at times because sometimes, the connection will not be the same for everyone however it will be stable enough for everyone to join the meeting, but during the meeting some people will experience video or audio delay and it is a great issue that has not been resolved by Zoom at all, it still has the same requirements and it is a bit annoying, luckily, we have been able to solve this issue by recording our sessions and uploading them to the cloud so that it is available for everyone that joined in case they missed anything, but nonetheless, it is a big issue within the Zoom platform.

Ubiquitous, but could look and do better

    Date: Oct 01 2021

Summary: Many better alternatives have popped up with better features, functionality. For enterprise users, would still recommend Teams, as it is more than just a calling app and does the job 100x better.

Positive: Ubiquitous and easy to use, Zoom is now a standard for calling, like Xerox for photocopying! I use it regularly.

Negative: Very, very dated UI. It feels anachronistic. Zoom should make it better looking.

    Became Clunky

    Date: Sep 12 2021

Summary: Zoom has great features that most people are familiar with. This means you won't have to explain how to join a call or raise a flag for a request to download as most people already have it installed and are familiar with features like breakout sessions, raising hands, etc.

Positive: Zoom is still a widely used solution, well known and most likely already installed on many computers. It has a free version available, allowing for intensive testing before making an upgrade decision.

Negative: Zoom became clunky and now distorts professional microphones that had never had any issues before. Their support is nearly non-existent for the free solution and slow for the paid version.

Has great potential but is lacking in design/ease of use

    Edited: Aug 04 2021

Summary: Of all the video conferencing platforms available, Zoom has the ability to host bigger groups with less interruption and does not require accounts with all attendees but does lack ease of use for menu navigation.

Positive: -You don't need a program or specific type of account to use. Just need a link and a passcode
    -good view of all participants
-while the free account is limited in features, it does provide a good starting place for video conferencing

Negative: -It is difficult to navigate the different views
-Menus are in different places making it difficult to find all the settings to customize your call
-security was seriously lacking until recent updates

    Okay software

    Edited: Jun 30 2021

Summary: Not a bad program but for users who only need to use it once a month the free version leaves a lot to be desired.

Positive: The free version works fine but good stuff is hidden behind a paywall. For what it does do, it works without any issues.

Negative: The free version works but is very limited feature wise. If you are using this you really need to be on the paid version.

    Zoom is okay

    Date: Jun 18 2021

Summary: I think Zoom is just okay for offices. The software could be a-lot more intuitive for the UI experience.

Positive: This software is great for quick, easy video chatting. It's ease-of-use is amazing. The fact that I can video chat anyone in the world is great.

Negative: I hate the fact that you have to pay to get more time and people on a call. Microsoft Teams is all this in one and cheaper too.

Pretty good, but room for improvement.

    Date: Nov 03 2020

Summary: We're generally happy with zoom conferencing but it might not be our first choice if we had to choose again.

Positive: Technically sound, reliable, and good audio/video quality. It's a big name too, so everyone has used it.

Negative: Compared to some fully browser based offerings, it can be a little harder to use since you have to install software.

    Nothing new, whats the hype

    Date: Jul 27 2020

Summary: Zoom is just okay. It seems over-priced and could be more generous with its offerings. The sound quality needs work, the filters sound very annoying,

Positive: It works just as any decent conference software could since the last 10 years. Easy to use, loads fast.

Negative: No new innovation, very bad sound processing. The plans seem expensive.

    Good, but could be better.

    Date: Jun 22 2020

Summary: Zoom has quickly become somewhat of an industry standard. It's easy to use, has many features, and is pretty affordable. However, some UI tweaks could make it much better.

Positive: The video quality is acceptable, and I rarely experience dropouts or freezes. There are also plenty of features available such as screensharing to make presentations more effective.

Negative: The process of joining meetings is quite clunky. There's more downloading and clicking than should be necessary. The power of modern web browsers should be leveraged. A good example of this would be Google Meet.

Also signing out is more difficult than it should be. If I close the app, simply sign me out. Make those a single step and I'd be happy.

Easy to use but lacking in security

    Date: Jun 01 2020

Summary: If you're looking for a quick and easy video conferencing solution, Zoom might be your best bet. But if you care at all about your security, try another solution, like Microsoft Teams, Skype, even Slack's built-in video call functionality, Cisco WebEx, or Google Meet.

Positive: Zoom was designed by veterans of the web conferencing industry, and it shows. It's super easy to set up a meeting room, to share the link, to use it with your existing teleconferencing equipment at your office, or with your students. I've experienced using Zoom both for work and for online classes at my university, and the user interface is honestly really intuitive. Zoom makes it clear when videos are being recorded, and whom you're sending messages to (everyone, or a specific person, or the hosts).

Negative: If I didn't know about how Zoom handles its security, I'd have to give it 5 stars. But I can't. Because Zoom has a history of messing up security. In summer 2019, the webcam and audio were on by default, or super easy to send a link to a Zoom meeting (there was a Google Calendar exploit at the time, which allowed anyone to add a meeting to someone else's calendar without notifying them by email). Combined this meant malicious actors could snoop in on people's cameras and conversations by sending a zoom link via Google Calendar.
And in 2020, Zoom bombing, caused in part by the Zoom meeting URL being just a string of numbers with nothing preventing people from trying random numbers. Plus allegations of Zoom rolling their own crypto instead of using tried and tested cryptography...a huge no-no.

Ease of use comes at a price.

    Date: Apr 17 2020

Summary: To counter your privacy concerns, the app could be used in audio-only mode. But still, given the numerous issues regarding safety and privacy, it is not recommended for confidential board meetings. If security is somehow beefed , then this is an app to beat. Till then, better stick to MS Teams and Google Hangouts Meet.

Positive: 1. Very easy to set-up.
    2. As many as 100 people can join a single meeting.
    3. 40 minute long video calling with free plan. Same link can be used to join again and again, making it effectively unlimited minutes.

    Negative: 1. Security concerns.
    2. A lot of features like end-to-end encryption look like gimmicks.
    3. Quality can degrade drastically at times esp. for screen sharing.
    4. Design looks non-intuitive.

    Great for remote meetings

    Date: Apr 13 2020

Summary: Overall it is a very useful program to have and I will continue to recommend it to others. I would suggest making it more user friendly.

Positive: Great for holding meetings with a lot of people. The mute feature is very useful to cut down on background sound and distractions from those attending the meeting.

Negative: Hard to navigate and use efficiently if you aren't familiar with it or have time to play around with it before hand.
