One of the almost-plausible arguments is that a poor quality Ethernet cable can pick up analog noise which can leak into the actually-analog speaker output, since the Ethernet cable and the speaker cable go into/out of the same system. Like I say, it's almost plausible: noise from within the computer really can leak into the speaker output, and RF signals really can propagate through the Ethernet cable into the computer. The question is: does that actually make a difference, especially one that is in any way perceivable? The answer, as TFA found, is a decided "no".
Well, not to defend Microsoft, but this behavior is probably the most effective way to get the kinds of people who need to be kicked off of IE to actually be kicked off of IE. You know, the users who probably wouldn't even notice that Edge isn't IE in the first place.
The rest of us can take care of ourselves.
Out of all the stupid, evil or self-centered things Microsoft does, this one's frankly pretty low on my list.
I've been living with Windows 8 because I can work around most of the stupidities, but when I bought my wife a new laptop with 8, she hated it so much she traded it to one of the kids for their Windows 7 machine.
If I could ask for one thing in Windows 10, it would be the ability to make the desktop look like Windows 2000. That's the last version of Windows I thought actually looked good (although 7 wasn't bad). But with this stupid cult of "flat" you can't even do that any more. That was one of Microsoft's stupider and more arrogant moves in the UI field, because you could easily write a book out of all the many reasons why the "flat" look is inferior. The flat look is like reverting back to Windows 2, although at least with Windows 2, the color palette was so small stuff didn't all run together.

The makers of the cable didn't know WTF they were doing; they claimed it was better for music.
The testers merely were merely thorough by explicitely testing the claims, asinine as they might be.
By doing so, they are taking away any dumbshit rebuttal the makers might have had otherwise.

If you argue that something is useless or inferior to an alternative, then you need to prove that it is that for everybody, not just for some people.
No I don't. I don't have to prove anything in this discussion, because I'm posting on an Internet message board and voicing my opinion. When I'm trying to get published in scientific journals, or if I'm on trial for something, those are the times I need to prove something.
And in this case, I'm not even arguing that nobody should buy an XBox. I don't care what people do, and if the XBox is, for whatever reason, more convenient, by all means go buy one. I don't care very much what some random asshole on the Internet buys. You could go buy yourself an XBox for every room of the house, and hey, it's your money, you can do that. I'm still aloud to post on the Internet that it seems excessive and stupid.
As far as whether streaming PC games to your XBox is a good idea, my guess is that the experience won't be great for twitch games, but if it's a good enough experience for you, then again, by all means, have at it. I'm not going to be an asshole and claim that you have to prove that's the best choice for everybody.
At the same time, if what you really want is a method to stream your Steam games to your TV over your home network through a set-top box, I would guess that there are cheaper solutions than the XBox. You don't even need something with much 3D rendering performance to stream video.
Whatever MS's justification, they do actually ask you if you want to change your current apps for certain functions during the final stage of the upgrade phase. What I don't like is that it is essentially an "opt-out" rather than an "opt-in".
Of course, given that the prosecutors didn't want an indictment in the first place and given that the prosecutors are the ones in charge of trying to convict the defendants, one wonders what the chances of actually getting a conviction are...
When will Microsoft realize we own the computers, we are ultimately the ones who make decisions about the computers, and they simply can't dictate to us what software is on our computers and how we use it.
Not while they can dictate to us (and they can, except for the exceptionally knowledgable) and make money doing it.
