It did stop working, as a matter of fact. It was being updated to work with recent kernels. Since they stopped support, no more updates; now I must use an old distro if I want to use it.

How old is that GPU, considering that the rpmfusion builds for fedora 21 support everything back to the Geforce 6xxx series. Perhaps it's time to upgrade the video card?

I don't know about Comcast, no Comcast around here. The local cable company is all HD, no extra charge, but only if you have an HD capable cable box hooked up with HDMI or Component connections. They'll upgrade your box, but only if you ask for the upgrade and lots of people don't realize they need the newer box. If you just hook the cable up to the TV, you'll only get the local channels (and WGN) in HD.

Personally, we have DirecTV, a Genie system with an c31 RVU unit on the second TV. These units support HD and SD.

No, because they don't actially offer "SD only service", it's all HD now. The problem is a lot of people don't understand the varying abilities/quality of the various ways to connect things to TV's. To them they've got an HD set, what more do they need? Not realizing that they may need to trade in the old cable/satellite box.

A large majority of the market switched to HD. They're not having trouble convincing the market to adopt HD. They already did.

I know of people who have their HD set hooked up to cable and satellite boxes with RF cables...and then they stretch the SD image because they think they're not getting what they paid for.

I don't think you understand what the numbers mean. x50 and below (450, 650, 630, etc) are workstation kind of cards. Good for web browsing and regular desktop stuff.

I don't think YOU understand the target market or numbers. Workstations that do web browsing and regular desktop stuff don't need standalone cards, they use integrated graphics.

The x00, x10 x20, x30, x40 cards are for those who have some use for better 3D hardware than just browsing and "regular desktop stuff", but not enough to require a higher end card. "Light gaming" like Minecraft, some F2P MMO's or HTPC use. That's why those cards are popular amongst Linux users.

You are a PC gamer, you've spent years not using your thumb for anything except the space bar. You will have issues when you try to use the thumbs on a gamepad because you haven't developed the skills/dexterity to do so.

The people who have been using their thumbs can use those thumbsticks, d-pads and buttons just fine.

With large volume flash storage becoming cheap, far in excess of that of DVD and even bluray, why not use them as game storage.

Because mass produced pressed discs are still cheaper to manufacture than flash storage. a 32GB SD card costs 20 bucks, a 50GB blu-ray RW disc is 3.50

Games could be saved onto the flash drive, the hard drive or both,

Where have you been the past 9 years. You can, if you want, go digital and install games from PSN to a PS3 hard drive and never bother with a disc. On the PS4, games are installed to the hard drive, even if you use the disc. (if you buy the disc version the game will do a disc check on start but that's all you need it for)

The PS vita, uses a combination of pre-loaded games on cards, and games downloaded to it's storage.

fragile optical discs

They're not fragile, not if you take proper care of them. I've got 19 year old PSone CD's, DVD's and Blu-rays are even tougher.

and the space used for the optical drive can be re-purposed for proper cooling equipment that "modern" consoles clearly require.

The PS2 had a fan, the PS3 had a fan, the PS4, has a fan. They HAVE proper cooling, where have you been the past decade?

Console manufacturers missed the boat with this generation so console peasants will have to wait 4 or 5 years to get this.

Elitist PC Gamer Burgeosie are so out of touch they don't realize that they really don't know what's going on with consoles.

It WAS tied to the Democrats. Even as early as 1948, the segregationists knew their welcome in the Democratic party was coming to an endl. the 1964 civil rights act and Nixon's Southern Strategy pretty much finished the job.

The KKK's been Republican aligned for years.
