According to The Tinted One, windmills cause cancer, insomnia inducing hums, kill whales, reduce real-estate values*, and fly apart under heavy winds with the blades slicing shit up.

Some troll(s) posted bunches of fake videos showing windmills exploding under heavy wind, killing horses etc. The gullible fall for it because it fits their preconceived notions.

I suspect some people get jaded by the repeated number of stories hyping up something that never comes to fruition. Interestingly enough, battery technology has been following a fairly predictable trend line for a while now. It's nowhere near as impressive as Moore's law, but it has been reliably trudging along.

Even though very few of the supposedly massive breakthroughs ever manage to pan out, with twenty years of steady progress and incremental improvements we'll wind up getting to that level anyways. It's just that few really notice it when it's not some big flashy leap forward that even though we have reached that point eventually it seems rather unimpressive.

I'd imagine that at least some of these are honeypots set up by some federal agency. The kind of people who are stupid enough to join a Facebook group like this are probably exactly the sort that they want because they're also stupid enough to get themselves talked into committing some kind of felony that they can be arrested for.

I can understand crunch for a project that's been in the works for years and has an approaching deadline, but random shit that has sprung up from nowhere means you have incompetent bosses and you bailing their ass out of the fire will only teach them that they can pull the same shit again.

One of the reasons COBOL lives is that most COBOL apps are is not UI-tied, meaning UI fads and changes don't affect what it does. Business and administration hasn't changed much since COBOL was designed, other than the fact we normalize a little better because our hardware got faster. People aren't tempted to refashion what they can't see. Java and C# couldn't replace COBOL's lasting power without standardizing business-oriented libraries.
