Journal damn_registrars's Journal: Dice Holdings Inc is now "DHI" 11

I'm surprised this wasn't on the front page. I noticed today in the bottom right corner

Slashdot is a DHI service.

And was left to wonder if the Slashdot parent company was bought out. Apparently they just changed their name for better branding. I'm sure this can only lead to good things for this site, right?

    DHI? Dick Heads Incorporated?

    • I'm pretty sure they own more than this crappy site, so I'd say no :)

That said, it also reminded me of DHL, which left me thinking it was a crappy web site associated with a third-rate courier service.
      • I noticed it a few weeks ago, and figured that finally they realized that "Dice" as a name for anything outside of gambling was kind of down-market.

Unless, of course, you're talking about Andrew "Dice" Clay, right? Really, can you be more up-market than him?

That said, I've been around here a lot less in the past few weeks. I get more useful and current tech news through google news and if I want to know what conservatives are yelling in an echo chamber I can witness that through other places as well. The utility of this site is dwindling rapidly.

Ever since they changed it so I have a goddamned horizontal scroll (are they on crack?) I've only come by occasionally to look at journals.

Look, Dumbass Holdings Idiots, there's no reason whatever short of GROSS incompetence to introduce a horizontal scroll on a widescreen format notebook!! I'm all for hiring the handicapped, but you don't hire Ray Charles to be a bus driver and you don't hire the educationally handicapped to code...

Although I suspect it may be retarded PHBs than retarded coders. Someone is

            • If Slashdot closed tomorrow, would Dice notice? It's not incompetence, it's apathy. Slashdot is a hollowed out shell that the spammers moved into, and it's only part of a collection of trinkets sitting on Dice's coffee table. Look at their history, nothing but a very fluid series of mergers and acquisitions. It has to be a tax thing.

            • Interesting -- I don't have a horizontal scroll anywhere on my pages once the window size is larger than 640 px. Perhaps it's a setting on your system or in your profile setup that is kicking in the horizontal scroll?

              • by mcgrew ( 92797 ) *

No, it's something slashdot did, since I never had the scroll before and didn't change any settings.

  • "lead to good things for this site"?
I understand what those words mean individually. Somehow, that string in this context is a mystery.

Finally something you kids can agree on!

You did see that DR was using the sarcasm font, right?

      • I suspect that statement may have actually trapped smitty in an infinite loop. He has stated before that he reads my comments assuming that I mean the opposite of what I say. Hence in the case of sarcasm the loop might never exit.

Today is a good day for information-gathering. Read someone else's mail file.
