Microsoft is pushing a patent that in terms of OS stability and reliability is a good move. However, Microsoft has taken this good idea and decided to squeeze the pennies out of it. The patent proposes to modularize device drivers much like Linux, and apply DRM to these modules. The net effect would be that you would have to pay extra for OS harware suport. Things like USB keys, DVD-ROMS, Raid drives and video cards would most likely not be supported 'out of the box'."
