Journal nizo's Journal: I am a 6' tall midget (with a poll thrown in) 40

(6 feet = 1.82 meters for the civilized world)

Ok I finally figured it out today: I am a really tall midget. Not only do I have small (size 8.5WW) feet, but I have a 29" (73.66cm) inseam, which is about 4" (10.16cm) less than average. Or maybe my torso is abnormally long. I am suprised I don't fall over more often. I need to ask my mom if they gave me hormones or something when I was a kid.

Anyway, onwards to the poll. If you could wake up tomorrow and be an expert in any one new thing, what would it be?

  • Any other goal I could accomplish without magic, it would just take a lot of practice. With music, I'm never going to get any better than I am now, which is church-choir level.
    • That is a very interesting choice and one that I didn't think of. Trying to attain something which you have been working very hard at but seem to have hit a 'wall' can be frustrating.
    • Seconded.

I really need to dust off my bass and start practicing again.

  • Money isn't the answer to all lifes problems, but it's a lot easier to deal with the ones it isn't when you are filthy fucking rich.
    • Yeah, but that didn't work so well for Hurley on Lost ...
    • In the song, "Shitloads of Money", Liz Phair said it quite nicely in the chorus, "It's better by far to get payed. I know that most of the friends that I have don't really see it that way. But if you could give them each one wish how much do you want to bet they'd wish success for themselves and their friends and that would include lots of money."

  • I'm 1.62 with a 28" (can get away with 29" sometimes) inseam...

The average ratio is slightly larger for women than men. I wish I had copied the average ratios from the website, and now I can't find them (after just now clearing my cache). Though my guess is you can kick higher than your head :-D
  • Quantum physics, without a doubt. Only because they (the physicists) SAY there is tremendous weirdness at the quantum level, but as of now I can't either accept it or call BS. I would love to be able to really understand what goes on at the lowest levels of matter.
  • 5'11" (178 cm), size 9 feet, look like many germanic/scottish men (barrel chest).

    Q. If you could wake up tomorrow and be an expert in any one new thing, what would it be?

I'd have to choose teleportation. So long as I didn't have to test out the teleporter myself, that's what the red shirts are for.

Failing that, I'd choose clouding men's minds. It would be nice to read women's minds, but it's the men that are half the trouble, and I'd see about convincing certain incompetent leaders that they were being ea

Just imagine how suprised you would be when you wake up the next day with a pair of breasts.

I do that frequently. I keep telling my girlfriend I'm sleepy, but she always wants me up. ;-)

Doesn't matter who tests it when you get a resonance cascade.
  • I'm already an expert in everything else... ;)

  • NEW thing? You mean stuff I don't already dabble in? That's tough...I try to dabble in everything I'm interested in.

    Hm.

How about an expert on sex?
    • by nizo ( 81281 ) *
I knew someone would pick sex....

Ok lets include things you already dabble in, THEN what would you choose to be an expert at?

      • Mathematics.

If I have to be more specific, Computer Science.
        • Oh, and my physical description:

5'11", 240 lbs, (Down from 280. Woo!) size 10 1/2 shoes, (Though I go with size 11, because the cheap shoe stores don't always stock 10 1/2) 38" inseam.
      • Yeah, I was gonna say "fellatio" but then I realized I already am an expert, so, really, I guess there isn't anything more to wish for.

Except maybe really perfect gourmet-type knife skills. You know -- for the kitchen. That wouldn't have anything to do with my extant expertise, of course.

  • I'm now 4 foot ELEVEN and a half inches!!!!

Er, and that means 29" is just about half my height, now. Let's just say i usually have to cut about 5 inches off trousers before hemming them... it's hell buying clothes, because normal sized jackets fit, (though the sleeves are long by about 3-6") but the trousers that fit my waist are so long that i look like that scene in 'big' where he's wearing the enormous suit at the end? Yeah. So i buy separates, shorten the sleeves, cut a lot off the legs and hem them, an

Damn, I could probably put one of my feet wearing one of my shoes inside your shoe :-)
    • How do you not know your inseam??? :D I have the worst combination: 35" inseam by 35" waist. Not only is it hard to get pants with inseams over 34" with waists under 40", I have in between lengths which means I usually end up with a bit of give on the pant length. Styling then determines how it wears. If I go for a relaxed khaki or a chino, this means I might actually have to cuff them. If its a jean that's straight or bootcut, it usually doesn't matter. The key for me is being weary of what shoes I

        • Yeah, I break out the crockpot now and then. Make a pot roast or a corned beef. The stuff usually reheats pretty well. But I was thinking more of a cook-to-order type of thing. At the lab we have a meeting place with a small kitchenette. Before each of the big holidays the women who run it will have a group luncheon/brunch there where folks bring food. People show up bringing "their thing" (some egg/green chili dish, etc). I lack that level of kung-fu. I'd say I was a compotent cook but nothing more
  • Literally, if I had to pick something to decide to be an expert on it would be decision making. I'm horrible at making decisions, at least when I'm neutral on any matter. Otherwise I'm adamant about what I believe in. For the most part in day to day activities though I have a hard time seeing what is more beneficial, or at least doing so in a timely manner.

The only way to even come close would be for you to turn into one, and even then you probably still wouldn't be an expert :-)
  • Joke: I'd like to be an expert at sincererity - once I could fake that, I could fake anything. ;-)

    Real answer: persuasion.

For example, I know the mechanics of project management. I think I'd be a good project manager - except that with limited resources, one needs to be able to coax those resources into doing the work required in the project. There is something about me that puts off people when it comes to granting favors / seeing the value of helping me.

If I were an expert at persuasion, I'd be set to
