Journal nizo's Journal: So what would you do? 26

A quote I often think about:

What would you do if you knew you could not fail?
--- Robert H. Schuller

Since fear of failure is certainly an issue with me (that and sheer laziness), I find this quote useful.
So what would you do if success was assured?

So what would you do?

Build a cheap, efficient translight propulsion system and take a closer look at the galaxy.

  • ...before realizing that I'd invite Naomi Watts home for a threesome with me and the missus. Part of that "no failure" clause would be the assumption that the missus wouldn't kick my ass for trying it.
  • Develop a drug that would cure people of their delusions that the fairy tales and myths they have been told are literally true.
  • I would write and do photography and art.

    Be social. Get additional degree(s).

    I dunno.

  • I'd create a system that took all of the data on the web, filtered through all biases, and provided pure, unvarnished truth(R). By that, I mean it would be able to tell you exactly what conspiracies exist (and, thus, virtually eliminating them), whether phenomenon X really exists (e.g., hardships to people who don't speak Spanish in the US being greater than hardships to people who don't speak English), etc.

The problem is, we all filter such ideas through our own worldview. For example, I've never, ever e

  • Become President of the United States and drink very, very heavily...
  • Survive the collapse of civilization as we know it and set up a decent pre-industrial mode of living for myself and others.

That or raise a happy healthy family that's prepared to do the above.
  • What's the point if there's no reason to strive?
    • Ahh, but what if there were only one thing you knew you could do without failing? I am not saying that you suddenly wake up with the midas touch here; if there is one thing you always wanted to do, but have put off (for whatever reason) what would it be? So far the replies to this journal boil down to "if you had a single wish" answers (nothing wrong with those :-) ) but the quote makes me think of "what could I do, if only I didn't fear failure", which in turn makes me think, "why the hell am I not doing i
  • So many of our decisions are based on fear. Irrational fear. Don't live your life out of fear, live it out of love. Do what you love. Be what you love. Change the things you can so that you may love more! What are you afraid of? As far as what I would do if I knew I would not fail? Skydive. ;)
  • I would leave IT *right now* and open that bakery I have been talking about. No question.

So what steps are you taking right now to make this happen? The world needs more bakers dammit :-)

Financial planning and more practice. I still need to draw up a viable business plan.

  • AND on time!

/Time to get "afternoon snack break" done... off for some yogurt
  • I'd take over the world!
    MUAHAHAHAHA!!!
  • What would you do if you knew you could not fail?

Go out and buy the winning lottery ticket ...

After all, rich or poor, its nice to have money.

  • As WHO.

And the answer... Pretty much anyone I wanted. :-)

    ....Bethanie....
  • Develop complete, controlled, telekinesis, in a way that I could provably teach it to others - (by the time anyone figured it out, I'd've made my first ten mill or so in casinos around the world). I'll save re-arranging the solar system for later...
(A small bit of synchronicity: the capcha word for this post is "imparts" - hmmmmm)
  • Of course, I'd wait for a good high week to maximize the benefits of guaranteed success. Can't really think of anything that doesn't sound as tongue in cheek as that - guess fear of failure doesn't influence me as much as dislike of competitition.
  • I'd cure the world of stupidity (with the nice side effect that I'd probably eliminate organised religion in the process). As it stands, mankind is doomed, and while I don't have my affection for the human race in general, there are a few that are worth keeping, and the only way to do that is to rid the planet of morons.

Are you having fun yet?
